The Carteret County Sheriffs Office is investigating reports of suspicious activity among three individuals at two schools on Wednesday.
According to a press release from the sheriffs office, just after noon, three individuals came into the White Oak Elementary and Bogue Sound Elementary schools and were asking questions as to whether the schools were designated as crisis evacuation centers. After being requested to present identification, the individuals presented IDs that appeared to be military-style ID cards but the validity of the cards is unknown.
Law enforcement said they contacted surrounding military installations and have received no word of military personnel are conducting any exercises or security assessments in Carteret County.
The first suspect is a white male, 6-foot-0 with a thin build, dark hair and wearing a long sleeve green-stripped polo shirt and blue jeans. The second suspect is described as a light skinned non-Caucasian male, 5-foot-8 with a thin build, dark hair and wearing a plaid shirt and blue jeans. The third suspect is identified as a light skinned non-Caucasian male standing 5-foot-8 with a medium build, dark hair and wearing an orange plaid shirt and khaki pants.
All three subjects were wearing Merrell type hiking boots and were in their mid 20s in age, according to the press release. The subjects were last seen operating a newer model small 4-door hatchback crossover vehicle, possibly a Toyota Rav-4 or Dodge Journey, according to officials. The vehicle was described as silver in color and bearing out-of-state tags, possibly the Washington, D.C. area. The vehicle was last seen around 1 p.m. on Hwy. 24. It was unclear which direction they were traveling.
All county schools and law enforcement agencies with schools in their jurisdictions were notified of todays activities. The Sheriffs Office is asking for the publics help in identifying and locating the subjects for questioning in order to determine their identities and purpose for visiting the schools. If anyone has any information on these individuals please contact the Carteret County Sheriffs Office or the Carteret County Communications Center at (252) 726-1911.
I think they were in the wrong Beaufort and that they meant to be in the one in South Carolina. They look Syrian, Lebanese, etc.
One of the guys is described as a light skinned non Caucasian male.
What the hell is that??????
.
They are probing.
North Carolina. False alert. People were identified a official US military personnel.
Perhaps checking out school security among other things, or just checking on its status as an emergency shelter.
Hope it is both.
Where is the report of the false alert?
Yeah I saw that update. Still is strange, though, right??
I hope you are right. Seems unusual.
Carteret County sheriff: Suspicious individuals are legitimate military officials
where does it say they are military
Thanks so much for posting the image.
Carteret County Sheriff Asa Buck sent out a press release Wednesday night saying the suspicious individuals who visited two schools in Carteret County were legitimate military officials out of Fort Bragg.
In an email sent to media members on Wednesday, Buck said: “All media partners. I am confirming that the subjects have been identified as members of the Army 83rd Civil Affairs Group out of Fort Bragg. They were here conducting legitimate information collecting activities.”
More information will be released as it becomes available.
I’m calling BS.
LOL. How many ways can you say Middle Eastern?
At least they could have made an appointment and come in uniform. Still strange.
Cuz all legitimate military exercises in elementary schools involve Middle Eastern looking young men with untucked shirts, etc.
I agree. I wonder if the info they were gathering was how do people react when weird arabs show up acting suspiciously?
North Carolina. False alert. People were identified a official US military personnel.
...
If so this is a very strange way for the military to do things.
It is odd. I can see the authorities not wanting people/parents to freak out.
