On a regular basis, and seemingly always after a jihadist attack, news stations reach out to individuals who claim to speak for Islam and who, by the way, happen to repeat the mantra that Islam is a “Religion of Peace†and prohibits violence.

Islam is not about pacifism.

Sura (2:191-193) - “And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution of Muslims is worse than slaughter of non-believers...and fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah.”
Sura (5:33) - “The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement”
Sura (8:12) - “I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them”
Bukhari (52:177) - Allah’s Apostle said, “The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. “O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.”
Tabari 7:97 The morning after the murder of Ashraf, the Prophet declared,” Kill any Jew who falls under your power.”
Ibn Ishaq: 327 - “Allah said, ‘A prophet must slaughter before collecting captives. A slaughtered enemy is driven from the land. Muhammad, you craved the desires of this world, its goods and the ransom captives would bring. But Allah desires killing them to manifest the religion.’â€
No Muslim should be believed when claiming that Islam is non violent.They are simply talking advantage of bleeding heart liberal Westerners.
Not to say that there are no peaceful by choice Muslims, there are. But they exist within a religion dedicated to conquest, denigration of women, the abandonment of individual freedom via submission( Islam means “submit.”)

No. Subsect of Islam which believes that their first “caliph”, Mirza Ghulam Ahmed was and is the Messiah and Mehdi already on Earth. Proclaiming a return to the original path of Islam, he has a fairly large following and is hated by the Sunni and the Shia, although they primarily follow Sunni believes.

Sorry about not editing the strange symbols, but I have a friend who has a nurse from India come to her house once a week. She has been here 8 years and speaks some english. She knows nothing about our history or Christianity except what we have shared. After the attacks in France (she was visiting that day) I asked her about Islam and she said it was bad. She knows. Pakistan taught India.

These folks need to be made to show where in the Koran and Hadiths it says that violence is prohibited. In my reading I found not those passaes.
Mohammed, the quran and other “holy” books speak for islam.
Everyone should be required to read them. Whatever individual muslims do or do not do is irrelevant, as it can change at any time.
Actually, the claim that “Islam is a religion of peace” is something more subtle than a simple lie. It reflects the severely defective concept of peace found in Islam. Remember that in Semitic languages like Arabic, the consonants form the root of the word. Islam (submission) and salam (peace) have the same root: slm.
In the Mohammedan mind, there is no peace other than the peace between conqueror and conquered, between master and slave. Neither the negotiated peace between equals in worldly affairs nor the transcendent peace of God with passeth all understanding are anywhere to be found in Islamic thought.
The Muslim who asserts “Islam is a religion of peace” may be engaged in taqiyya, if he has sufficient understanding of non-Islamic thought to realize that his assertion will be misunderstood in ways that advance the cause of Islam, or may simply be making what he regards as an honest statement because his conception of peace is defective in the way I have described.
The non-Muslim who makes the same assertion is at best hoping to encourage the pacific tendencies shown by minority sects like the Ahmadis and Ismaelis to spread among Muslims generally, and at worst (and more likely) is simply a fool.
Well said. And the idea that we are not at war with Islam is merely a less than convenient truth.
