It actually goes beyond brains or lack thereof. When I did the cap pistol exercise with a friend, we figured out that all told, the cc holder has about 3 seconds total of non-contiguous advantage over a robber who is brandishing.
That is a ridiculous advantage in a gunfight.
The robber doesn’t want to shoot you, he wants to rob you and leave. He expects you to dig around in your pockets. He doesn’t know you are armed. It takes time for it to register with him that your gun is not a wallet or something, and that is only if he is facing you when you draw down on him.
And one of those things cops don’t mention very often is that about half the guns used by criminals are non-functional. Though you can’t count on that, it is still nice to know.
Finally, overlaid over all of that is that the robber has a brain the size of an oyster.

Here in California there are a few more steps to consider.
From the trunk of the car get the gun out of the locked gun box or container. Gun and ammo cannot be in the same location in the auto while transporting.
unlock the container and remove gun
Get into the car and retrieve the magazine and ammo
load magazine with ammo
put magazine in gun
ready the gun for firing by cocking hammer or pulling the slide
Make sure safety is off
Pull trigger if you're still alive by this time.
The perp obviously thought old Esmerelda was going into her purse to get the money he demanded. He never dreamed the old girl was packing. And her going into her purse, supposedly to retrieve the loot, was a perfect cover for her to come out with gun blazing. Dontcha love happy endings?😊

If you’re selling something it’s not likely you’re loaded with cash. If you’re going to buy a car they figure it IS likely you have cash. Those are who get robbed.
