Two of the most important trend lines in political campaign polling might be about to cross.
One is the rise of online polling. The other is the decline of telephone surveys because of rising costs and possibly declining quality, tied to the fact that fewer Americans are willing to participate in a telephone poll. Many public opinion researchers have thought that Internet polling would eventually overtake phone polling, but they hoped it would not happen before online polling was ready.
Ready or not, online polling has arrived. Political analysts and casual poll readers now face a deluge of data from new firms employing new, promising, but not always proven methodologies. Nowhere is the question of the accuracy of the new online polls more evident than in the survey results for Donald Trump. He fares better in online polls than in traditional polls, and it's not clear which method is capturing the public's true opinions.
According to the Pollster database of Republican primary polls, there have been nearly as many Internet surveys as there have been traditional, live-interview telephone surveys, 90 versus 96. By this time in 2011, opinion researchers had conducted just 26 online surveys and more than 100 live-interview polls.

Anything from the nyt has to be taken with a double dose of salt.
I don’t do on line polls, nor do I give my email address out, or anything else...but somehow, I was getting emails from Cruz and Rubio for donations...but now that I clicked off Breitbart they have gone away...wonder why....
Online polls by their very definition are suspect.
On line polls are certainly not scientific. But that’s not what has them in high dudgeon. It is that these polls almost always give reulst diametrically opposed to what the bicoastal effites [sic] want.
Only the dimwits at the New York Slimes would have a problem with on line poling. Their real bitch is that they can’t massage the numbers sufficiently yet. What a surprise.
Freep a poll about the accuracy of polls. HAHAHA
I’ve said it a hundred times, “Polls are like noses, everyone has one”.
The ONLY poll that counts will be the one the day following the 2017 election.
Agreed!
I have an email set up with no contacts that I use for posting and surveys or voting.
Hey Slime, have you Clowns apologized to Trump yet?
I’d like to see more about online polling. It’s far advanced now from what it used to be.
But this is just a diatribe against Trump’s poll numbers.
The funny thing is that he basically criticizes Trump’s high online poll numbers because thpse polls may not accurately exclude non-Republicans...
...which is exactly counter to the media meme that only a ‘fringe’ conservative cohort of Republicans support him LOL!
Hey NYT, here’s an online poll you can take the bank(before they foreclose on you that is):
YOU SUCK!
We had a pollster at one of our meetings that said flat out that polls at this time are pretty useless.
I'd be happy to, but they never call me.
Bookmarked for later use.
