St. Paul's Episcopal Church to remove images of Confederate flags
Richmond Times-Dispatch ^ | November 23, 2015 | LAURA KEBEDE

The historic St. Paul’s Episcopal Church known as the “Cathedral of the Confederacy” has begun removing all images of the Confederate flag from within its walls. The measure includes six plaques with various versions of the Confederate flag, the church’s coat of arms with the flag on kneelers at the high altar, and bookplates in some books in the church’s library.

The coat of arms will be retired, and the church will start to dig deeper in its history, the role of race and slavery in that history, and how parishioners can engage in conversations about race in the Richmond region, church leadership announced Sunday, three months after conversations began with the congregation.

Any history you do not like you can just erase. How do you remember the good and bad from our past? How do you learn from it?

What took them so long? Why did they have these flags in the first place if there was something wrong with it? Political correctness rules the church I guess.

This thing makes me uncomfortable and represents the accepted practice in the Muslim world, so therefore we shall expunge it. Because those southerner trading ships that went and raided Africa over and over again, snatching up whole villages who were not part of the ruling tribe were entirely to blame for a dark human practice that continues to this day.

Whatever, have fun pretending it never happened, you can keep your racist dialog which consists entirely how everything isn’t the fault of blacks (including the enslavement of ancestors,) and how to blame everything on the White Christian Man.

Someday we will have no history remaining in the United States Of The Perpetually Offended.

Everything will eventually have to be expunged from memory because anything you can think of offends at least one person somewhere.

The Episcopal Church long ago left biblical Christianity, and is a dying denomination.

This is another evidence of its growing irrelevancy.

We are all sinners. It is a shame that St. Paul's Episcopal Church would fail to recognize that "who is without sin should throw the first stone."

The historic St. Paul's Episcopal Church must have many who are without sin. I do not think so.

I was afraid something like this would happen when that woman in South Carolina began tearing down historic flags and was rewarded with favorable press coverage by the main stream media.

It didn’t happen. This same cathedral may soon be erased by the muslims and people in the future will not know that it ever existed.

When I say “it” didn’t happen, I mean the Confederacy never happened.

Because snowflakes will be intimidated by the resemblance of many church flags and banners to the confederate battle flag, all will have to be removed.

This is not a “church” any more, it is a “cult.”

I makes me uncomfortable because it’s suppressing the truth. Especially that part where hundreds of thousands of white Americans gave their lives to end slavery. It’s a cultural purging.

NC Bishop. Michael Curry has been elected to replace the former Presiding Bishop Katherine Schiori. She was a disaster, but I fear he may be worse. Anyway he is making race and atonement for racial discrimination/slavery one of the main topics of his episcopate and yes he is black.

I grieve for any loss of history. However, the only “coat of arms” of a church should be the Holy Cross.

Is this the church where Robert E. Lee worshiped?
