Back in the day many refugees came to this country to make a contribution. My wife was born in a displaced persons camp in Passau Germany in 1948. Her parents were Ukrainian Nationals swept up by the Nazis during the war and forced to work for the Third Reich. Many of the Ukrainians in this camp were sent back to the Soviet Union where they disappeared in the wilds of Siberia. The Mennonite offered to sponsor their immigration to the US. There was no welfare or any help from the government. They succeeded as Americans. My wife was nationalized after 16 years in the US as were all the children. The Parents never became citizens. Who will sponsor these new refugees? I see few making the offer beyond the government.
