'Nearly four centuries after the Mayflower set sail, the world is still full of pilgrims - men and women who want nothing more than the chance for a safer, better future for themselves and their families,' Obama said in his address.
'People should remember that no refugee can enter our borders until they undergo the highest security checks of anyone traveling to the United States,' Obama said in his address.
Obama has vowed to veto the House refugee bill. But the White House has said it is open to working with lawmakers on tighter security measures for visitors from 38 countries who do not need a visa for short visits to the United States.
In his address, Obama quoted from letters he had received from Americans welcoming Syrian refugees. Urges America to show generosity to migrants fleeing the war-torn country
Obama compares Syrian refugees to Pilgrims arriving in America in 1620 Calls for Americans to welcome migrants fleeing for a better life in the US His address came after he reassured Americans over their security fears Said national security is 'on the case' as Americans fear Paris-style attacks
The President said those who came to America in 1620 were themselves fleeing persecution before quoting from citizens who said they were ready to accommodate refugees.
Obama's plan to accept 10,000 refugees from Syria became a lightning rod for political criticism after attacks, claimed by ISIS militants, killed 130 people in Paris two weeks ago. The United States is leading an international coalition fighting the group in Syria and Iraq.

I heard Mark Levin criticizing the bill because it only requires 3 signatures, not specific vetting. Also, he asked what will happen if a refugee turns out to be a terrorist? Will the signatories be punished? No.
I don’t believe this hypothetical woman exists, but if she did, she’d be dumber than compost.
"until they undergo the highest security checks of anyone traveling to the United States."
Can anybody translate that legal mumbo-jumbo into something the average person can understand? Thanks.
What exactly is the religious persecution these Islamic colonizers are suffering? Didn’t they raise arms against their Goverment?
He’s not insane, it’s leftism. The American people still have no leader explaining to them the left is crazy and immoral.
That makes us the Indians.
European immigration didn’t work out too well for the Indians.
He’s a comparison spaz.
Who put the duh in allciaduh? Does a bear absolve sins?
In the leftist mind, the Pilgrims were conquerers and colonizers... so this seems about right, actually.
If he means that their goal is to conquer and replace the indigenous population, then he is probably correct.
In common street language it translates to "Shut up and give me your wallet".
We all know that these folks writing to "Dear Bammy" are either fake, or Dem operatives like the "random" concerned townsfolks BO happens to encounter at staged cafe stops.
The people who actually believe the outright BS are the ones to watch like a hawk. They are essentially sleeper agents, programmed remotely via the MSM, awaiting activation by whatever emotional trigger sets them off.
Could be a confederate flag sticker on a laptop..
I supposed the good news is that it has become very easy to identify the enemy.
One big difference the Mayflower Pilgrims payed their own way.
There were Muslims on boats in the days of the Mayflower, and they were doing the jobs Europeans wouldn’t do: Piracy and slavery
Exactly! However, you canât cure stupid and it sure seems to be epidemic.
In theory, you can allow stupid to prevent itself from passing on genes to the next generation. Those in power seem to be in opposition to this for some reason.
