Ticketed airline passengers crossing between San Diego and Tijuana will soon have a new option. A 390-foot pedestrian bridge linking Tijuana International Airport directly to Otay Mesa in San Diego is set to launch operations on Dec. 9.
Users of the privately operated port of entry, called the Cross Border Xpress, will be charged for each crossing. Enrique Valle, chief executive officer of Otay Tijuana Ventures, builder and operator of $120 million facility, said Friday that the toll will be $15 for those who purchase tickets ahead of time on the website for the facility and $18 for those who pay on location.
The only port of entry on the U.S. border that connects directly to an airport in Mexico, the Cross Border Xpress also will be the first on the California border where users will be charged a toll. Only ticketed airline passengers will be able to use the facility.
The bridge will offer these travelers a faster way to cross the border, avoiding long lines at the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa ports of entry. It connects the Tijuana airport with a facility on the U.S. side that includes an area for U.S. customs and immigration processing, but also airline ticket counters, currency exchange facilities, a duty-free area, and a restaurant.

You hate to just assume the worst, but what’s to stop this bridge from being a conduit for illegal aliens and ISIS or other terrorists? I’ve heard its relatively easy for foreigners to enter Mexico, then sneak into the US, as compared to flying directly into The US. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. In any event I am sure the Muslim terrorists know we have inadequate border controls as it is. See if we see them fly into Tijuana then walk across this bridge and be home free.
Dems need voters.
Pubes need cheap labor.
BANISH these parties from the consideration of you and all your friends.
“the Tijuana airport”
Bienvenidos a Tijuana airport! Por favor, choost ignore the streengs on the weengs de los aeroplanos ...
“Official sources have cited a rate of one-third and two-fifths of the illegal alien population as visa overstayers. Pew researchers have cited a range of 38 to 50 percent. The GAO has issued estimates of 23 percent, 31 percent and 57 percent using different methodologies.”
The easiest way for any illegal except the poorest of the poor to come here or for terrorists to infiltrate the U.S. is to cross legally on a visa and not risk being apprehended at the border. The State Department has 47 different categories of Visas.
Who in Hell approved this?
[Former] Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave final approval to what is openng on December 9th but the concept goes back decades.
I donât see how this particular border crossing would be any different to any other border crossing or flying into a US airport, for that matter. In any case you would have to go through US Customs and Immigration, just the same.
Not until they are processed in at the US Border Control point. If they are not officially cleared into the country, it will be a walk back across the bridge to Mexico.
Makes some sense given what San Diego airport is like.
I like our airport! I have left home, parked in airport parking, hopped on a shuttle bus and been at my gate in 25 minutes.
Be sure to ask for a window seat for your flight in.
I’ve lived in San Diego for 26 years. There’s nothing left to see!
