Crimea without power from Ukraine after electricity pylons 'blown up'

Crimea was left without electricity supplies from Ukraine on Sunday after pylons carrying power lines to the Russia-annexed peninsula were blown up overnight.

It was not immediately clear who had damaged the pylons, but a Russian senator described the move as an "act of terrorism" and implied that Ukrainian nationalists were to blame.

Crimea receives the bulk of its electricity from the Ukrainian mainland and its seizure by Russia last year prompted fury in Kiev and the West, which then imposed economic sanctions on Russian companies and individuals.

Russia's Energy Ministry said emergency electricity supplies had been turned on for critical needs in Crimea and that mobile gas turbine generators were being used, adding that around 1.6 million people out of a population of roughly 2 million remained without power as of 1000 GMT.

Strange; CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, and even FOX said it was Putin. Go figure...

build power lines from Russia.

They could do it easily. The Kerch Strait is only about two miles across. The Russians had a major port facility under construction just north of there but suspended it when Yalta fell into their hands. So I assume a lot of generating capacity was already planned.

This was a significant vulnerability for Russian in their occupation of Crimea. By exploiting it now Ukraine has lost it and done so for no gain. Another leftist tantrum plays right into Putin's hands.

To sum up: Soros is basically lobbying on behalf of Ukraine, pushing for cash and guns, to oppose Putin in every way possible.

If genuine, and based on their meta data, they appear to be just that, these lettes show how Soros is trying to weasel around the Minsk agreements (for instance, how to train Ukrainian soldiers without having a visible NATO presence in Ukraine). The documents link up Nuland with Soros, and clears up who is truly pulling the strings of the US State Department.

Finally, while the documents don't mention what Soros has in store for Ukraine, one can use their imagination.

Because Crimea pays top dollar for the power, that's why.

Why should Ukraine provide gas transit to a country that has invaded them, killed thousands and destroyed 100 miles of their border?

Think before you carry water for a mass murdering KGB thug, FRiend.

Putin doesn’t need an excuse. He’s a Russian chauvinist. Murdering their smaller neighbors is how they roll. Same everywhere.

Because the Kiev coup gets all it’s gas for heat from Russia, and it’s early in the winter? Just a guess/

Interesting. If I understand correctly, you believe an appropriate response by Russia would be to launch a nuclear attack by Russia. Nice touch with the boy in the photograph. Outside of Russia and the Middle East, threatening nuclear Armageddon is not viewed positively.

Ukraine no longer gets most of its gas from Russia (and never “all”). This is so even after Russia’s theft of Ukrainian gas resources. Also, your obsessive reference to a “coup” reveals your slavish devotion to Putin. Since the former president Yanuconvict fled, there have been presidential, legislative and local elections.

In war, there is only one rule: Win, absolutely.

The winner writes the history, the morality, and the rules.

Probably would be more of Ukraine must repair the line they will claim they didn’t damage, and deliver the power they have contracted and are paid well for, or else I would expect the Russian gas spigot gets turned off, in November.

No one is threatening to nuke Kiev about this.

For all the hysterics about Russia invading Ukraine, they never moved outside assisting the area that didn’t support the Nazi coup. When you throw a coup, its childish to think you automatically fall heir to everything the old country held. In a coup, you only get what you can grab by force. Others in the old nation state have just as much right to separate and establish a new entity, as the people taking the government by force have.
