Today, Louisianans are going to the polls to decide who will lead the state for the next four years.

In what was arguably the state's most interesting primary elections since 1987, state Rep. John Bel Edwards and U.S. Sen. David Vitter ended up in the top two slots in the Oct. 24 primary election.

Edwards finished in first place among the four gubernatorial candidates receiving votes in the double digits in that primary election, garnering 40 percent of the vote - almost double those of his nearest contender, U.S. Sen. David Vitter, who received 23 percent.

Back in May a poll from SM&O research showed Vitter with 38 percent and Edwards with 25 percent, but ever since polling trends between the men have wavered, with Edwards gaining as Vitter lost.

However, pundits are still hesitant to call the race for Edwards. In the recent gubernatorial race in Kentucky, the Democrat in the race polled high, but on election day, the Republican, a tea-party conservative, won by a landslide.

John Bel Edwards (D) 54.76% 378121
David Vitter (R) 45.24% 312342

2040 precincts in—the absolute gap is shrinking a bit, but I like Oklahoma State’s odds better than Vitters.

East Baton Rouge reporting 61 of 315 precincts and Vitter is losing by some 12,000 votes. Orleans still hasn’t reported any precincts and it most likely will go Edwards by a good margin. Even the smaller rural parishes aren’t going his way.

Been gone to many moons to have a good feel of the situation but it looks like Vitter just didn’t have it. Some of the locations/parishes that I thought would go GOP didn’t and I really think that has to do with the candidate. But Vitter is still Senator but he’s got a decision to make about his political future. JMO.

He really didn't campaign hard enough hanging Obozo around Edwards neck.

Edwards really loaded up the airwaves with his BS crap, didn't see that big and pounding of an effort out of Vitter.

At least my candidates won for Lt. Gov. and AG.
