Today, Louisianans are going to the polls to decide who will lead the state for the next four years.

In what was arguably the state's most interesting primary elections since 1987, state Rep. John Bel Edwards and U.S. Sen. David Vitter ended up in the top two slots in the Oct. 24 primary election.

Edwards finished in first place among the four gubernatorial candidates receiving votes in the double digits in that primary election, garnering 40 percent of the vote - almost double those of his nearest contender, U.S. Sen. David Vitter, who received 23 percent.

Back in May a poll from SM&O research showed Vitter with 38 percent and Edwards with 25 percent, but ever since polling trends between the men have wavered, with Edwards gaining as Vitter lost.

However, pundits are still hesitant to call the race for Edwards. In the recent gubernatorial race in Kentucky, the Democrat in the race polled high, but on election day, the Republican, a tea-party conservative, won by a landslide.

My read is that there is a pile of early voters and a handful of complete precincts—the SOS page is saying 11 out of nearly 4000 reporting. Perhaps someone actually in Louisiiana can confirm.

Thanks ... had to believe LA would go back to D, but you never know.

I still don’t understand why that job would appeal to Vitter vs being a U.S. Senator (other than maybe as gov you are THE executive of the state vs. being 1 of 100 Senators who have to come to agreement thru compromise).

Yes—but the SOS page is showing a pile of votes for Parishes with no precincts reporting—where are these votes coming from?

Seems like that would fire up the folks in LA to get out and vote for Vitter, because of this.

Vitter can then join the Trump plan to send them ALL back.

Go Vitter!!

I didn’t even know they were having their Gov election, today. I know Vitter has personal issues, and I don’t excuse him for a NY minute, nothing compares to the hell storm a Dem will cause.

John Bel Edwards (D) 57.88% 130099
David Vitter (R) 42.12% 94674

21 Precincts complete, plus early voting, most likely. The absolute gap seems to be growing.
