Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel declined to give the reason why the authorities raised the alert level but told a news conference the government would review the security situation on Sunday afternoon.
The metro system would remain closed until then, in line with the recommendation of the crisis center, he said.
The crisis center website said it was calling on local authorities to cancel large events, urge people to avoid crowds, postpone soccer matches, close the Brussels metro for the weekend and stepping up the military and police presence.
Suspected militant Salah Abdeslam, 26, returned home to Brussels from Paris after the attacks, when his elder brother Brahim blew himself up at a cafe.
Fears of the risk he still poses prompted the cancellation last week of an international friendly soccer match in Brussels against Spain. The crisis center said weekend games in the top two professional divisions should now be postponed.
The alert level for the whole country was raised following the Paris attacks to level three out of four, implying a "possible or probable" threat. Previously, only certain sites, such as the U.S. embassy, were at level three.
Belgium, and its capital in particular, have been at the center of investigations into the Paris attacks - which included suicide bombers targeting a France-Germany soccer match - after the links to Brussels emerged. Three people detained in Brussels are facing terrorism charges.
French authorities have said the attacks were planned in Brussels by a local man, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, 28, who fought for Islamic State in Syria and was killed in the siege of an apartment in the Paris suburb of St. Denis on Wednesday.

As long as a Muslim attends a Mosque and listens to teachings of the Koran he is not a so called moderate. Heos an Islamic Muslim period....and all that goes into their cult teachings.... Until they renounce Islam and the Koran they are in one form another supporting the Jihadists and Islamic teachings, which they cannot pick and choose from.
If they don’t attend Mosque then they are considered “Apostate” by Islamic Law.....and most scholars say this carries the death penalty, though some Muslims here are fighting against this Law saying it’s too severe.
Belgian citizens have long time welcomed Muslims into their country...like with Norway and Sweden they are reaping from this decision to bring in known cultists who need very little to trip their inner cords of violence, injustice and victim mentality. “natural” to their culture and upbringing in ME countries.

Suspect on the loose has ‘been in contact with friends’
Salah Abdeslam has reportedly been in touch with friends on Skype, telling them he is hiding in the Brussels area and asking them for help in getting back to Syria.
The friends, who have spoken anonymously to ABC News, said that Abdeslam had called them on Tuesday evening and told them he was caught between the extensive police search and local Islamic State members who were “watching himâ€, apparently unhappy that he had failed to detonate his suicide vest after the attacks in Paris.
According to ABC’s report:
Abdeslam insisted he played only a minor role in the attacks, but his friends said they doubted his claim of innocence. His brother told ABC News that Abdeslam was “manipulated†by the attack mastermind, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, killed in a police raid Thursday in France. Abaaoud and Abdeslam were childhood friends and were arrested when caught in a robbery in 2010, according to an Abaaoud family attorney.
The claims appear to chime with a statement made earlier today by a lawyer for Hamza Attou, one of two suspects charged this week by Belgian authorities for allegedly helping Abdeslam return to the country after the attacks.

Special forces have arrested four people who were in a suspicious vehicle at the Place du Grand Sablon in Brussels, according to a report from RTL. Military and local police did not give further details.

I’m just agreeing that he wants what is happening in Europe to hurry up and happen here. His clock is ticking...not much time left on his watch for the final stage of The Plan.
He never envisioned the political landscape, at home, to be what it is, today. (He thought Jeb would quietly be supporting him, as the GOP frontrunner.)
Not that that will stop him.
