CONCORD, N.H. -- Ben Carson on Friday officially filed for New Hampshire's presidential primary, then waded through a bog of questions about whether special surveillance or "databases" were required to keep track of possible Muslims extremists.
"I think we should have a database on everybody who comes into this country," Carson told reporters in the state house. Told that rival Donald Trump had proposed tracking Muslims already in the United States, Carson added that "hopefully, we already have a database on every citizen who is already here. If we don't, we are doing a very poor job."

I believe Dr Carson is tired of campaigning. He’s been saying some of the wackiest things.
My views on Carson: I don’t want him as POTUS.
But clearly he means to say “we need a database on every NON-CITIZEN in the country”, and I agree with him on that.
The difference of course is the Jews were not beheading, raping, murdering . . . .
Nothing wrong with nice comfortable "Sharia Camps" for Islamists, Jihadists..
while secular Muslims are accepted and protected. In my view.
Aren’t we all really already in the “databases”? IRS, social security, etc ....they know where each and every one of us lives.
Why should it be any different for those coming into the country.
How do you know that? By reading his mind?
Upon closer reading... maybe he DID really mean every citizen. Yet another wacky goofball Carsonism.
Boy, is THAT a misleading headline!
Detestably low even by WaPo gutterball standards.
That’s not what he said.
Passport Files on many Native Americans.
Actually, we do have a database on every citizen, and, yes, any visa holder or visitor to this country should be in a database.
For citizens we have social security numbers, school records, military record if applicable, work records, phone records, insurance records, etc., etc.
That’s a mountain of a database, a large part of it accessible only by warrant, but some of it such as Social Security and IRS, accessible without warrant.
You're giving too much credit to Mr. Magic Vitamins
Representative Maxine Water has said that Obama has a database on everyone that “you wouldn’t believe.” Perhaps he’ll bequeath it to Ben if he becomes President.
My bad. See my #7
Let’s see....Social Security has had me since my birth. The Voter Registration folks have me. That means the Jury Pool database has me. The Census folks tell me that if I don’t answer their questions I can go to jail.
Both Oakland Police and the Alameda County Sheriff have got me, but that’s my own fault ;-)
I think I’m on no end of gub’ment databases....
No doubt. But I do not think its a good thing for a candidate for the republican executive ticket to say, especially with the public as angry at the establishment as they apparently are.
He’s a wild and crazy guy. :-)
I don’t care for Carson very much, but this is so ridiculous. They figured they zapped Trump with a bunch of bad publicity through their misrepresentations today, so the WaPo decided why not try such a winning strategy on Carson? What Carson said about immigrants has nothing to do with universal surveillance. The WaPo is hoping people skimming through their rag of a paper won’t notice that’s not what Carson said. I really hope these tactics backfire on the press big time.
We’ve traded ‘privacy’ for ‘anonymity’.
The government has a data base on everyone already, it is called the IRS, or the Social Security admin.
I would also hope they have info on those allowed in via immigration.
