A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a weapons theft at a Worcester armory on Saturday.
The FBI announced Thursday morning that James Walker Morales was taken into custody Wednesday night by authorities on New York's Long Island on state and federal warrants. Morales is charged with unlawful possession of a machine gun and unlawful possession of firearms.

Oh, and one more thing. The author said the 16 stolen weapons had a total value of "more than $1000". $1000?
My guess is the $1000 is a floor to put in an initial charge of grand larceny.
That sounds like a legal distinction. More than $1000 = certain type of charge.
So this citation will either say "less than $1,000" or "more than $1,000" - as opposed to a more precise number.
Sorry, small correction in my post #1. The suspect entered the armory by breaking a glass window.
An alarm was triggered for a vault at the Army Reserve Center at 9:07 p.m. Saturday, according to an FBI affidavit. At 7:30 a.m. Sunday,...
Only 10 hours to answer the alarm?
There's another James Morales who's a repeat pedophile sex offender in Coeur d'Alene, Iowa.
Amazing what you can find out with Google.
Each weapon most likely has a value of over $1,000. Maybe multiple charges for theft & illegal weapon possession.
Did they recover all the weapons?
Thanks for pointing out the charging aspect. Now that $1000 figure makes sense. I had thought it was either a typo, or the author had no idea what the value of those weapons were, and was making a (really poor) guess.
“Did they recover all the weapons?”
They probably won’t recover the weapons that were previously stolen and that will now be attributed to Morales so the paperwork finally balances out.
It’s rarely a mistake to presume the press to be ignorant. ;)
Arms Rooms must be constructed to conform with a set of physical security specifications. If this arms room met the standards, refitting all of the arms rooms, especially in facilities that do not have a 24 hour presence will have to be done. Big $
Just curious.
I won’t be checking the serial numbers on any Christmas presents you guys might want to leave at my doorstep. Just sayin’...
Coeur d’Alene, Iowa?
Are you sure it’s not C d’Alene Idaho?
At least they answered the alarm. We had a break in at our city maintenance shop and the PD failed to respond at all to the alarm. Then we discovered that the thieves had stolen the Deputy Chief’s car that was going to be surplused. It was recovered several weeks later in a huge drug bust.
$1000 is the Felony level.................
well, it was open after he broke it!.........
"....Authorities say the man left four âreddish brown stainsâ in and around the weapons vault. They claim DNA obtained from those stains was a match for Morales, who had been wearing a monitoring bracelet after he was charged with child rape back in May.
Wonder if there are any statistics on the number of monitor bracelets that are removed prior to continuing crimes.
