Holm, the boxer had a longer reach and landed many damaging blows. Rousey was on queer street and fell after missing a punch, she had no defense for the jabs that kept landing on her face. It was hard to watch. Holm fought a smart fight, spun her around, and as she was turning back - whack, came the kick to the side of the head. That knocked her out and the ref smartly stopped the ground and pound. It was masterful, and Rousey looked like an amateur.
Holm negated Rousey’s wrestling and judo skills, and then pummeled her from a distance using her reach advantage.
Should be an interesting rematch if Rousey can get past that force field.
As Rousey was regaining consciousness on the mat, Holly stooped down to see how badly Ronda was hurt. Ronda ended up in the hospital for the night.
Holly is known as “the Preacher’s Daughter” and not in a bad way - she gives credit to her trainers, her family and to supporters in ABQ and NM. Most of all she has an incredible training ethic and pushes herself to become the best she can while remaining grounded and personable.
The Sunday ABQ Journal’s lead at the top of the front page was “Happy Holly Day.” When she returns to ABQ she will be given a big reception (details forthcoming). Her win is touted as the biggest local sports story in the city’s history, equivalent to the NM Lobos winning the NCAA. BTW, football team beat heavily favored Boise State in Boise Saturday night and the basketball team beat downstate rival NM State Aggies too. A very good sports Saturday it was.
