Donald Trump says tough gun control laws in Paris contributed to tragedy

BEAUMONT, Tex. -- Donald Trump says the tough gun control laws in Paris contributed to the high death toll during a series of terrorist attacks on Friday. The attacks, he added, also reveal the danger in allowing Syrian refugees into the country.

"You can say what you want, but if they had guns -- if our people had guns, if they were allowed to carry -- it would have been a much, much different situation," Trump said to cheers during a political rally at an arena in southeast Texas on Saturday afternoon. "I hear it all the time, you know. You look at certain cities that have the highest violence, the highest problem with guns and shootings and killings -- Chicago is an example, toughest gun laws in the United States, nothing but problems. So our country better get smart because we're not smart right now."

By making that comment, Trump doubled down on a message he tweeted in January, following a smaller-scale terrorist attack: "Isn't it interesting that the tragedy in Paris took place in one of the toughest gun control countries in the world?" As that dated tweet recirculated on Friday evening, the French ambassador to the United States, Gerard Araud, tweeted at Trump: "This message is repugnant in its lack of any human decency. Vulture."

Yet about 500 murders a year are done by illegal alien invaders in your state each year.

In that context you are correct. No way to stop that stuff. Witness Paris, very healthy Black Market in guns, bombs, etc. and the French can’t stop it. Only way would be to invade these ghetto neighborhoods and raze them to the ground and if Marie Le Pen gets in she will.

By the way Hollande is now absolute Toast in France for this.

I'm glad he has come to the light of liberty, I just think he should live by it for a couple of years before he becomes the most powerful man in the World.

Trump has been living it sense the 70s. He has books out in the 80s, 90, 00s, and this year all saying basically the same thing he is saying today. The only change over the last 20 years is on abortion. He has explained that and you can take it or leave it. But Trump has been consistent, achieved great things, lead multi billion dollar corporations and is not owned by the chamber of commerce. Who else in this race has those qualifications, track record and integrity?

Trump has been living it since the 70s.

What I mean by constitutional and conservative is very different from Trumps' life for the last 45 years.

What is repugnant is that the Ambassador to France would not support and idea that would have helped save his people from being slaughtered.

I’d rather have a Vulture as President than a Chicken.

That’s what the ambassador is saying. G. Araud is the one lacking in human decency.

Maybe I should read the article.

Trump campaigns like a Democrat. He isn’t afraid and why he will attack Hillary’s incompetence with no gloves

************************************************************

I want to hear him attack her damn’d lies too. It would tickle my funny bone to hear him tell her to her fugly face, “Hillary, you’re a liar”.

If any candidate had the balls to do it, it would be Trump.

the French have one of the higher rates of gun ownership. There are about 30 firearms per 100 capita.

**************************************************************

What are the numbers for the U.S? I suspect it is more than one per person, which would put the number of guns owned by the American people over 300,000,000.

I own only 2 pistols and a shot gun, that puts me below average, at least among F.R. members.

About 110 per 100 capita, or in other words, more than one firearm per person.

Certainly, the rate in the US is higher than France. But the rate in France is higher than many other countries. In the context of the entire world, France’s rate of firearm ownersip is higher than most.

Actual firearm ownership is misleading....are we talking about shotgun and rifles or pistols......and how hard is it to get a legal carry permit??

But measured by actual firearm ownership, they do not.

What use is firearms ownership of the restrictions are so onerous saving yourself with one is more trouble and riskier than doing without?

I was talking about trump saying that France had some of the strictest gun control laws in the world. They don’t. Their laws are stricter than ours, but among the more liberal in the world. In ranking over 170 countries by rate of private ownership, France ranks 12th.

Private ownership doesn't mean d!ck. It's like the death penalty. If the system is designed to make it impossible to use in circumstances that demand it, boasting that it exists is deceitful.

It’s complicated. It’s not like American law, which is close to anything goes. It is definitely more restrictive. There are national restrictions by capacity, and by caliber. There are categories that would be considered arbitrary, here. But, in summary, handguns with very limited capacities are more readily permitted. Handguns with larger capacities are more restricted, but not unavailable with greater effort. Many calibers are restricted or generally unavailable.
