I was talking about presidential nomination, which is the subject under discussion. Bevin is a good campaigner and the anti-insider sentiment carried him to victory regardless of Levin in his state race. Same reason 2 complete outsiders are leading presidential race by huge margins. I do not remember enough about Cruz’s TX race from 3 years ago to comment.

Local conservative talk radio started the Cruz introduction to conservative voters. Of course, Cruz did Texas proud as state solicitor general in some high profile cases, but honestly only legal types noticed this. The anti-GOPe entitlement sentiment was just starting with the rejection of Kay Bailey Hutchinson in the Governor primary position and carried over to David Dewhurst in the Lt. Gov slot. People wanted a change from the stranglehold of the entrenched GOPe politicans. The Tea Party was raising the awareness of the average conservative citizen to vet their candidates and local talk radio did this in spades. In my area, Michael Berry was a great educator for state and local politics and did the heavy lifting to plant the seed of awareness about Ted Cruz. Levin came on later as Ted was rolling, and Sarah Palin’s rather late endorsement vaulted Cruz over the finish line.
