Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter has fired his top military aide for allegations of âmisconduct,â a highly unusual move prior to a formal investigation into possible misbehavior by the Army general.
In a statement, Carter said that he had removed Lt. Gen. Ron Lewis from his position as senior military assistant. As his top military aide, Lewis was a right-hand advisor to Carter, providing him analysis on military issues, joining him at high-level meetings, and traveling with him on overseas missions.
Carter said the Pentagonâs Inspector General would investigate the allegations against Lewis and, if necessary, the Army would take action.
âI expect the highest possible standards of conduct from the men and women in this department, particularly from those serving in the most senior positions,â Carter said. âThere is no exception.â

So, what's new?
“The US military was brutal in its war against the civilian population of the southern states during the Civil War.”
The Federal troops probably killed tens of thousands of these civilian “war criminals”.
“All it will take is a Charlston Harbour moment, and things will go from rhetoric to action very quickly. The question is, who wins the info war after tnat moment and draws the populace to their side?”
I suspect the Charleston Harbour moment will be well planned and executed by the government at the time it determines martial law is required to achieve its ends. The propaganda machine will also be ready to spin the info war.
The key variable in winning the populace will be leadership. In the 1770’s we had brilliant and determined individuals leading a the effort against the British. Today’s wannabe leaders pale by comparison. I don’t see any who are willing to sacrifice their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.
“The Federal troops probably killed tens of thousands of these civilian âwar criminalsâ”
Tens of thousands more died of starvation, disease, and poverty in the years immediately after the war.
I'm a field grade in the Army. Modern Generals are corporate politicians. Where were our Generals when good Soldiers and Marines were crucified and had their lives destroyed over the Haditha and Abu Grab scams?
How many Generals spoke out against gays in the military?
How many Generals have spoken out about Chaplains being persecuted and having their careers destroyed?
How many Generals spoke out against drag queen shows on military installations?
How many Generals spoke out against the Special Forces NCO that nearly (and probably will) had his career destroyed because he stopped the nightly rape an a 12 year old boy on an American base in Afghanistan????
Modern Generals go to garden parties, conferences, meetings, and talk about dumb shit like "dynamic leadership and problem solving analysis in a complex world."
They're great at schmoozing and talking lingo, but I don't trust any of them.

Spot on.
One of the good guys...that’s what they said about Fitzgerald.
