Actress Jennifer Lawrence says she's "embarassed" that she grew up in the same state as Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Lawrence, who has been on a crusade on Hollywood's gender pay gap, brought up the subject in an interview with Vogue published Wednesday night.
According to interviewer Jonathan Van Meter, the interview took place the day after Davis got out of jail, and Lawrence brought her up because she views Davis as the "lady who makes me embarrassed to be from Kentucky."
"Don't even say her name in this house," she told Van Meter before criticizing "all those people holding their crucifixes, which may as well be pitchforks, thinking they're fighting the good fight. I grew up in Kentucky. I know how they are."
The "Hunger Games" star went on to discuss her political upbringing and how they clash with her current world views.
"I was raised a Republican, but I just can't imagine supporting a party that doesn't support women's basic rights," she said. "It's 2015 and gay people can get married and we think that we've come so far, so, yay! But have we? I don't want to stay quiet about that stuff."
It also turns out that Van Meter was scooped by Entertainment Weekly on a choice Lawrence quote about GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. She told Entertainment Weekly's Nicole Sperling in October that a Trump presidency "will be the end of the world," something she had previously said to Van Meter verbatim.
"My view on the election is pretty cut-and-dried: If Donald Trump is president of the United States, it will be the end of the world," she told Van Meter, though she added, "he's also the best thing to happen to the Democrats ever."
Jennifer Lawrence, just one more Hollywood blithering idiot.
Blithering libtard imbecile. Good thing for her that Hollywood has become a libtard leper colony for imbeciles. Otherwise she would have to get a job.
I’m embarrassed I’m on the same planet as she is along with a host of others.
Not since Natalie Portman have we been regaled with such a towering intellect.
Wish in one hand and put Jennifer's opinions in the other and see which one fills up first.
I believe this year at the Awards she will win for “Top Blitherer”
“Lawrence, who has been on a crusade on Hollywood’s gender pay gap”
I’ve been doing my bit working towards addressing that pay gap at my job for a couple of years now; I started working as few hours as the females!
She begs the question:
“If you're so rich, how come you're not smart?”
What are these “women’s basic rights” that are not being supported? I’m mystified, because I’m trying to come up with even a single aspect of my life that’s being trampled into the ground by the eeeevil patriarchy. and I come up with zip.
she must have a movie coming out later this month
Her future career in two words: Dixie Chicks.
Jennifer shows off her smarts.
Hollywood’s gender pay gap?!?!?
Poor Jennifer, she only got $52 Million this year.
I guess there’s some guy who made $53 Million and that has got her Agent Orange Feminism acting up.
Maybe I should get $52 million for my job and you can get paid what I do.
I actually work.
The vapid airhead who starred in that colossal bomb “Serena” is embarrassed about being from the same state as Davis?
Oprah makes much more than I do. I don't cry about the gender pay inequality...
Who is Jennifer Lawrence?
To borrow a line from Neville Sinclair in the Rocketeer It wasn't lies, Jenny. It was acting.
I doubt she was Conservative, just hiding her views until she was popular and rich enough not to worry about the little people.
Next comes the Botox and the anorexia starvation diet, and her transformation into a cookie cutter Hollywood airhead will be complete.
Hey, bimbo-brain Lawrence... give it a rest.
