The debate over Halloween costumes began late last month when the universitys Intercultural Affairs Committee sent an email to the student body asking students to avoid wearing âculturally unaware and insensitiveâ costumes that could offend minority students. It specifically advised them to steer clear of outfits that included elements like feathered headdresses, turbans or blackface.

In response, Erika Christakis, a faculty member and an administrator at a student residence, wrote an email to students living in her residence hall on behalf of those she described as âfrustratedâ by the official advice on Halloween costumes. Students should be able to wear whatever they want, she wrote, even if they end up offending people.

It also provoked a firestorm of condemnation from Yale students, hundreds of whom signed an open letter criticizing her argument that âfree speech and the ability to tolerate offenceâ should take precedence over other considerations

Ms. Christakiss email also led to at least one heated encounter on campus between her husband, Nicholas Christakis, a faculty member who works in the same residential college, and a large group of students who demanded that he apologize for the beliefs expressed by him and his wife, which they said failed to create a âsafe spaceâ for them

When he was unwilling to do so, the students angrily cursed and yelled at him, according to a video posted to YouTube by a free speech group critical of the debate. On Sunday it had been viewed over 450,000 times.

Do these people realize they offend me?
I guess the Modern Educayshun video was not just satire, see above.
Black Mao suits and short hair on all citizens should fix everything.
Everyone the same, everyone equal, everyone free from thought, fear, happiness, joy, or achievement or failure, no God, no devil.
Oh, and do carry that little Blue Book of Progressive Rules.
Shows the PC Nazi's class.
They should don Uncle Sam outfits and stilts and just really make these folks go ballistic!
I’m offended.
(I’m not sure at what but I don’t want to miss the party here....)

I went to college in Manhattan in the 70s. Nobody was interested in Halloween or costumes. We all wanted to be full-fledged adults - not children. Every day we were told by our parents and profs that we WERE, in fact, adults. But then, Viet Nam was going on and 18 year olds were being drafted.
Mizzou comes to Yale.
Aren’t you supposed to be sorta grown up by the time you get to college age?
By your description, most lesbians are already wearing Mao suits.
Here we go again with this “safe space” crapolla.

But the story above mirrors that Australian (fictional) video, obviously without the execution. .
It might have been the gays who popularized it. They fetishized the chance to wear costumes.
I live in NYC. I've been told that the gays go full out on Halloween. It's like Mardi Gras.
