Dale Brigham, a nutrition professor at the University of Missouri, implored his students not to cave in to âbulliesâ when he said an exam scheduled for today would proceed.
He was apparently talking about the fear among black students owing to threats posted on Yik Yak yesterday.
Brighamâs alleged indifference to his studentsâ fears led them to savage him on social media, some in incredibly crude terms, and now Brigham has resigned, he confirmed to local station KOMU:
âI am just trying to do what I think is best for our students and the university as an institution,â Brigham said to KOMU 8 News. âIf my leaders think that my leaving would help, I am all for it. I made a mistake, and I do not want to cause further harm.â
Just to be clear, Mizzou did not cancel classes campuswide â professors made that call for their own classes.

“Nutrition professor? That sounds about as worthless as Basket Weaving 101. I bet all the athletes are enrolled in that class.”
Interestingly, a lot of premed students major in nutrition. My brother-in-law was one of those.
Surprised me when I found this out, as I had thought it would be similar to what you are thinking.

STUDENT: "Good morning, professor. Oh my, you look a little pale today. Do you feel alright?"
PROFESSOR: "Oh my god! I am soooo sorry. Have I triggered you? I have, I know I have. What a vile micro-aggression on my part. I am horrible. That's it, I resign my job, effective immediately."

Seems to me, these kids have waaaaaaaay too much time on their hands. If I was paying for tuition there, I'd be looking for a refund.

Looking for a spine at a University is like looking for an honest person in the Halls of Congress. Academia needs more leaders like Sam Hayakawa, the English professor who rose to the presidency of San Francisco State University and faced down the campus radicals in 1968-1969. When radicals students shouted "Ho! Ho! Ho Chi Minh!" conservative students, including members of the Young Americans for Freedom would yell back, "Hi! Hi! Hayakawa!"

What a weasel! He makes a decision and backs down that easily over some immature kids ramblings? Incredible! Has he never heard of sticking to your principles? How does he think he’s going to get through life?
