I taught all my kids to shoot when they were quite young.None of them ever had to defend the home but they could have.

While the perps were black it doesn't say what the victim of the robbery was. If white he while likely have a hard time from some people for a while, but, he is alive and his mom's stuff is still in the house. It is difficult to have caring feelings for someone who shoots at you with a gun.
The 13 year old boy is a hero in my book and I suspect his mom's. His mom apparently made sure he knew how to use the gun and he used it very well. What a great mom. I'm sure she is very proud of him, we all should be. It is however a shame he missed the other one.

I just hope the mom doesn't get in trouble for keeping a gun where a 13yo can get at it.

Love the use of the word “suspect”.
They invade his home, shoot at him, and then are termed “suspects”.

“It was thoughtful of Bennett to drop Brown off at the ER rather than just pushing him out of the car.”
What makes you think he stopped his bullet riddled car at the ER entrance and then politely assisted the ER staff in loading his bullet riddled accomplice onto a gurney?

Bennett has now been charged with first-degree burglary and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Why not attempted murder - he shot at the 14-year-old???

Absolutely. My older brother, an arrested development hippie from the 60's, and I had an argument decades ago about this. He said then that excessive force shouldn't be used just because someone was stealing from you. I asked 'how would you know if the robbers had a gun or not?'. Logic doesn't live in the brain of any Libs/Progressives/Socialists/Communists.

I just hope the 13 year old boy can deal with HAVING to take the life of another human. There are many sides to this story, and that's one of them. The kid did nothing morally or legally wrong, but I sure hope his mom gets him some sympathetic counseling nevertheless.

Why not attempted murder - he shot at the 14-year-old??? In many states he would have been charged with actual murder. Even though he didn't pull the trigger, someone (his accomplice in this case) died in the course of the crime.

If that boy waited to see if they would kill him or just rob him it would be too late.

A 45 too, he wasn't playing.
It's been getting bad here in the Phoenix burbs. A rash of robberies, one at gun point, in the parkiing lots of the grocery stores and, ofcourse, Walmart.
