Syrian army breaks two-year siege at Aleppo airbase: state TV

Syrian soldiers fought their way into an airbase in northern Syria on Tuesday, state television said, breaking a nearly two-year siege by Islamic State insurgents at the facility and freeing military personnel holed up inside.

A military source close to the government said the army was working to secure the Kweires airbase in Aleppo province, where soldiers and officers have been under attack since 2013.

State television broadcast live footage from the airbase of an emotional, fatigue-clad reporter announcing the news, played victory songs and ran archive footage of military exercises.

...snip...

Britain-based monitoring group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, also said that an advance party of troops had reached the airbase and "broken the siege".

It is the most high-profile victory for Syria's army since Russia launched an air campaign in support of Assad on Sept. 30.

Obama is saddened and probably rushing anti-aircraft systems to the terrorists.

Russia, taking care of business which the Obama regime refused to do. Russia comes out looking strong while Obama looks weaker than ever. What a pansy (literally and figuratively) our President is.

Hmmmmm......

So using aircraft to provide support to the ground forces to suppress the enemy and allow the ground forces to maneuver works.

Hmmmmm.....

It’s all part of a plan. Can’t take out our military and cut it to shreads if fighting because that takes equipment and money being sent/spent elsewhere. The administration is not going to fight against any Muslims. They are concentrating on taking down America from within and that means telling our whole military conglomerate to stand down. What is the worst thing to do to a top competitive athlete? keep them on the bench.

I have no doubt that ISIS or some other Muslim Sympathizer placed a bomb on that aircraft.

Putin should order the KGB (or whatever they call it nowadays) to find the member(s) of that Egyptian ground crew who did it, Kill him/them. Kill his/their families, and make sure everyone knows that terrorists are effectively murdering their entire families when they murder Russians.

Obama may very well be saddened:

U.S. Spies Root for an ISIS-Russia War (Rooting for ISIS to punish Russia)

Indeed, some privately delighted in the news that Russia was made to pay for its intervention in Syria. (ISIS had vowed to attack Russia after it began its airstrike campaign on behalf of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.)

While the American officials weren't blithe about the loss of life—224 people died in the crash, most of them Russian vacationers—they said it could change the calculus in Syria in ways that ultimately benefit the United States. All the officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they’re not authorized to comment publicly on the possible bombing.

For several years now, intelligence and security officials have been frantically trying to stop al Qaeda from bringing bombs onto airplanes. Now ISIS had apparently succeeded where America's longtime terrorist enemy had failed. But alarms weren't sounding across Washington—even as leaked intelligence suggested a bomb had taken down the doomed jet.

This is big because it means Russia can stage aircraft right next to Allepo.

Including Obama’s pals the Muslim Brotherhood.

If Russia is willing to start massacring all Islamic radicals, I say let them have the middle east.

Islam needs to be wiped out.

If Putin decides to cut the head off the snake, you want to stay out of the DC area.

They may have broken the roadblocks to the base but operating it is another thing. They must control 20 miles around this base. Have they done this, no.

Watch for the Russians to move attack helicopters to that base ASAP, to interdict supplies from Turkey to ISIS.

Obama was extremely strong in supporting his Islamic brethren ISIS by making just enough of a phony show of American force against them so that people didn’t suspect he was on their side.

So using aircraft to provide support to the ground forces to suppress the enemy and allow the ground forces to maneuver works.

Indeed, these novel Russian tactics may well be worth studying.

This is the biggest win for the Assad side in a long while.

Aside from the major morale/propaganda value, this is a big step in encircling Aleppo, the biggest city in Syria, currently in the hands of rebels/ISIS.
