IMHO the West Point thing is a non-issue along with some of the other BS against Carson. However Carson’s support of the TPP deal and the 51 state thing is real.

He said from the beginning he never applied to West Point. He was told by Army folks that if he wanted it he could have it. I have no doubt this is true. He has done well in life, and would have done well had he gone that direction instead.

When I heard this story rehashed over the weekend there were variances.

Chief among those was the verbage that he was "offered" a chance to go to West Point. That is thoroughly plausible because many people recieve the "offer", some in school, some on active duty and some through West Point recruiters.

On the negative side he kept referring to the opportunity as a "Full scholarship". That verbage and it's usage are discussed in this article. My experence though is that once accepted the most commonly used term for acceptance, by far, is "appointment". As a big ROTC achiever he would have been more likely to have been exposed to that term.

IMO that still creates a hole in his story as he could have found the lesser used "full scholarship" term in literature of the time, not from a serious offer. Still, in the end, it is splitting hairs when compared to other candidates accounting of Behghazi or some congresscritters forgetting they actually weren't in Vietnam..
