Family Research Council president Tony Perkins has been broadcasting his âWashington Watchâ radio program from Israel this week, where he is helping to lead an FRC tour group. Also on the tour is former Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, who joined Perkins on the program on Wednesday to share her view that biblical prophecy is being fulfilled all around her and that it was more urgent than ever to convert as many people as possible â including Jews â to Christianity to prepare for the imminent return of Christ.
âAlmost every article in the paperâ has to do with conflicts in Israel, Bachmann said, âand it ties with so much biblical prophecy. This week really was about biblical prophecy in many ways. And weâre seeing as events are speeding up, events are speeding up so quickly right now, and we see how relevant the Bible is, and weâre reading our newspaper, at the same time weâre learning about these biblical events, and itâs literally day by day by day, weâre seeing the fulfillment of scripture right in front of our eyes, even while weâre on the ground.â
âWe recognize the shortness of the hour,â she said, âand thatâs why we as a remnant want to be faithful in these days and do what it is that the Holy Spirit is speaking to each one of us, to be faithful in the Kingdom and to help bring in as many as we can â even among the Jews â share Jesus Christ with everyone that we possibly can because, again, Heâs coming soon.â
Seemingly, if Christians saw Jesus obeying the Jewish Oral Law, as a Jew, as he does in some verses in the Christian Bible, they might also want to be Jewish.
Wouldn’t it be more desirable to imitate the original rather than to follow the words of those who came much after him?
Sheeba? Vishnu?
What makes you think they aren’t?!!
Good luck there. For everyone that does, you will have a dozen that won't. Hollywood is a prime example.
No one is guaranteed a tomorrow. . . . for that matter a next breath. . . http://www.patburt.com/
Christianity began as a Jewish sect. There were no Gentiles at first. Later, when Gentiles converted, the Jewish leaders of Christianity had to decide whether Gentiles were required to convert to Judaism in order to be followers of Jesus.
The decision was against converting Gentiles to Judaism.
Today, Christianity has almost entirely abandoned its Jewish roots. It is almost as if Gentile Christians think Jews must abandon Judaism to be followers of Jesus.
It is tragically ironic. Early Christian leaders (who were Jewish) would abhor most of modern Christendom more than any pagan idol-worshipping religion.
God does not lie or break His promises. He will keep the covenants He made with Abraham, Moses, and David. He has not abandoned His people, Israel. He will save Israel from destruction, and will one day establish His reign over the earth from His throne in Jerusalem.
You’re right, and that the media distorted her comments should be no surprise. I’d give her a pass since she’s no longer a political figure, but she didn’t win any friends to the GOP.
Rincarnation is a a part of Judaism, not widely known amongst many Jews. Not worth discussing on FR, nor am I qualified.
Two important tenets of Christianity: evangelism and the parousia.
The first is about proclaiming the Gospel and accepting the conversion of non-Christians to faith in Christ.
The second is about awaiting the Second Coming of Christ.
Yes, which is all Michelle expressed. Don’t expect the media to accept that.
You are correct.
I think it would take an army of sorts. Lemme see if I can find one:
“I was in imminent danger of being smiled, hugged, fried-chickened and banana-puddinged to death.”
Gotta watch that fried chicken and banana pudding combo, it can be very dangerous.
"Sheeba?"
And you want to discuss the intricacies of Hindu nondualim?
Keep your day job.
The moslems think their religion is the only true religion. Michelle thinks her religion is the only true religion. And (I hope) you think your religion is the only true religion. There is absolutely nothing shocking about any of this. The thing that doesn't make sense is the inane "all religions are equally valid" line.
What if I'm perfectly happy with my religion and don't see anything whatsoever attractive about other religions that I'd want to drop mine and adopt theirs?
The point is not that you are "happy" in your religion, but that you are right and she is wrong. Everyone being "happy" in his own religion would mean that there is no "true religion" at all.
Because she believes an event in HER religion is going to occur, which has nothing to do with Jews, then Jews have to convert to her religion to experience that event? Absolutely nuts. There--I said it. And I couldn't care less who doesn't like it.
Hey . . . don't convert. Don't worry about it. When Mashiach comes the chrstians, moslems, etc. will admit their mistakes and come around.
So sorry, I meant to say, âWE (except for driftless2) got Bob Dylanâ.
A lot of Jews have accepted Jesus Christ as the Messiah. That is just the way it is because Jews are as free as everyone else to believe what they want to believe.
Michelle Bachmann is a sincere chrstian. She believes chrstianity is the only true religion for everyone and that everyone must "convert" in order to be "saved."
There is nothing the slightest bit surprising or scandalous in these opinions of hers. They are the plain, normal beliefs of every chrstian who believes chrstianity is the one true religion.
The notion that religion is merely a subjective adjunct of ethnoculture is a terrible error that has corrupted the entire world. Religion isn't like a national costume or an accent. It is like mathematics or science--abstractly, universally, and objectively true. Everyone thinks his is the one. Most are wrong, someone is right.
I am a Noachide. I believe chrstianity is wrong and contrary to the will of G-d. But I don't have a screaming fit when some sincere chrstian states that only chrstians are "saved." In fact, my understanding is that no chrstian (or observer of any other false religion) will make it into the World to Come. To do that one must accept the Noachide Laws and keep them. If I didn't believe that, I wouldn't be a Noachide at all.
People need to grow up.
I’m just trying to make sure that non-Christian posters understand the context.
You don't think their religion is no good? You think that Judaism and (lehavdil!) chrstianity are equally good? You think that J*sus isn't (lehavdil!) Mashiach for Jews but that he is for non-Jews?
Their religion is no good. Why aren't you telling them that instead of implying that there's a separate "one true religion" for everyone under the sun?
I'm a former chrstian and a Noachide, and I simply don't understand how any Orthodox Jew can not understand (however much he may disagree with) other religions that also believe they possess the exclusive truth. I'm a convert from chrstianity myself. Are you saying I'm no better off than I used to be?
Many Jews throughout history have killed themselves rather than convert, because conversion is a spiritual death.
Exactly. Not to affirm that "all religions are equal." Chrstians need to leave a false religion for the true one.
It sounds like you want to discuss the intricacies of Hindu non-dualism though. Ok. Give us a primer.
