Why are you here?" I asked.
The whistleblowers looked at each other and smiled.
"Because I love my country. And I just can't do this no more. It's not right," said one of the IRS workers.
"That's why we're both here," said the other, echoing her colleague with long, deliberate pauses. "It's a crime, and it'sâ¦justâ¦notâ¦right."
Together, they have decades of experience at the Internal Revenue Service, working on the front lines with frustrated, angry or confused taxpayers who contact the agency for help.
Risking their jobs to come forward, the whistleblowers do not want to show their identity. But they do want to show how the IRS is a knowing accomplice to millions of cases of identity theft while keeping victims in the dark.
A five-month Eyewitness News investigation shows their concerns are well-documented, and the IRS has been warned about the problem for years. Within a massive federal agency that claims to be taking identity theft seriously, the reality â in many cases â is very different.

do they also Vote for you ?
Illegals Uber Alles.
They count for more then all of us.
Excellent question!
Trump ought to mention this in one of his speeches, btw. Because the most valuable names to be “stolen” are legal Latino ones.
In case you feel “safe” because you write a check, rather than receive a refund....wellllll...it doesn’t work that way.
If somebody uses your SSN to file a fake return and claims a refund....BEFORE YOU FILE....THEY GET THE REFUND!!!!!
And, since you’re paying rather than receiving, you’re much more likely to file at the last minute, leaving yourself vulnerable to the fraud.
probably...they just don’t know they did.
My 23 year old daughter applied for a job last winter where a background check was done. It came back showing her home address and one in Chicago with her SS NO. I sent her to the SS office and they told her they couldn’t do anything; she had to go to the IRS, which she did. Nothing has happened but for a form letter from the IRS acknowledging her claim. I signed her up with Lifelock as a hopeful preventative move.
The IRS: aiding and abetting illegal aliens at the citizen’s expense. Too bad we cannot sue the government for ,what’ the term? Malfeasanace! They certainly feel free to go after us like pit bulls on meth.
Senator Cruz has covered this, do away with the IRS, delete it, simplify the tax code. The employee manual is seven feet thick when printed. Absolutely no concern for the stress, inconvenience and cost caused to the legitimate taxpayer not to mention obvious favoritism or negativism to taxpayers based on political affiliation. Burn it down.
While I agree with his policy, how in the hell does anyone expect this, or any other Congress (past or future) to go along with it? Tax policy like this can only get through Congress. Who, exactly, is going to convince Pelosi to give up her goodies, Cruz? Trump? I’m sick of politicians whom offer pie in the sky things that are impossible on the face of it. This is simply election nonsense. It’s worth mentioning that many of the things Trump proposes are actually the law of the land right now, such as deporting illegals and building the wall.
He needs no legislation for doing much of what he discusses. The legislation is already on the books. We’ve just gotten used to lawbreaking or the ignoring of law, that we don’t realize it.
We’re turning into a banana republic without the bananas!
The tax code is the basis of power for establishment politicians, of both parties. The power to punish and reward via legislation is TOO MUCH for these cats to give up.
We need to stop expecting that person A or person B is going to do it. They’re not. We’re a year from voting in a GOP Senate that is doing more to help Obama than Reid did.
This is the province of the Convention of the States, and even they....state officials, are going to be bribed, trust me.
We appear to have a choice between keeping the same big government, anti Constitution people who don’t want to change the socialistic path we’re on or a true Conservative that knows and understands our Constitution and who is committed to solving our big government problems. But some don’t believe he will be able to do it so they will support those who either don’t want to fix it or don’t understand how how to fix it.
BTTT
I saw a documentary on some poor guy from Louisiana that this happened to for years, and the IRS did not care. The IRS took his assets and he basically lost almost everything. The other job he supposedly had was hundreds of miles away in another State but they didn’t care.
Well, well, well. You uncovered a juicy little morsel here. Take a bow.
There is a program that allows victims of identity theft to require a PIN to accompany tax forms to prevent this crap. Don’t know the details, but if I get a chance I’ll research and write some FR exclusive content.
Oh, look - a couple of IRS employees that AREN’T felons!
I know what one of the Founding Fathers would have done. :)
We are some of the privileged few who get to know about this atrocity, it will all be covered up and in time just disappear off the radar, unless congress gets involved and then you have to wonder if any investigation they do will only result in facilitating the cover, Lois Lerner Style!
Sounds like a trip to Chicago is in order.
So PLEASE...PLEASE tell me why I should file an income tax return?.......Someday if I ever make a dollar or two I will be a good American and pay a group of overpaid thieves my “fair” share. I used the word “fair” just the way the IRS uses “borrower” Tell me how the federal government as a whole is not the enemy?....you’ll understand if read the article.
