The latest attack ad targeting Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) in the Louisiana gubernatorial race claims that he chose "prostitutes over patriots."
The 30-second spot contrasts Vitter with opponent Louisiana state Rep. John Bel Edwards (D) on their commitment to the armed forces.
"The choice for governor couldn't be more clear: John Bel Edwards, who answered our country's call and served as a Ranger in the 82nd Airborne Division," the ad begins, "or David Vitter, who answered a prostitute's call minutes after he skipped a vote honoring 28 soldiers who gave their lives in defense of freedom."
"David Vitter chose prostitutes over patriots," it concludes. "Now the choice is yours."

Louisiana’s white electorate is 65% and the vote at a higher rate than blacks
Whites in Louisiana vote 84% for GOP presidentially
Edwards regardless faces an uphill battle
Louisiana is pretty forgiving of sexual dalliances btw
Very sad though that those are the only two choices. A low life who flips the finger to the troops, and a low life who supports Obama.
Louisiana,,,,
“dems don’t follow rules of not having the military in uniform “
Rules?
“I think you may have to tolerate a Dem governor.”
I certainly hope not! I’m no great fan of Vitter, but it’s very hard for me to think of Edwards favorably.
“C’mon. Edwards is the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and toes the party line. Why doesn’t he stand up as a proud Democrat? Why is he trying to fool voters?”
Exactly. A true conservative southern Democrat would never have supported Obama twice, let alone go to the convention to nominate him.
“1. yes, Vitter did that, and spat on veterans.”
Do you honestly think that Senator Vitter is unpatriotic? Don’t forget that is the conclusion that a liberal like Edwards is trying to make voters make. He obviously isn’t doing as well in the polls as he claims if he’s resorting to this sort of risky ad.
“This is the choice that voters usually face. Two horribly flawed candidates that differ little in substance.”
I agree that both candidates are very flawed, but I still think Vitter is the better choice. His record in the Senate is definitely more conservative than many senators. I don’t think he would be classified as a RINO. However, even if Edwards is a ‘moderate Dem’ (I don’t really believe he is), at the VERY best, he would be no better than a RINO.
“The charge will stick. Whether the people regard it as enough reason enough to suffer a Democrat is anybodyâs guess. It may be enough to keep some evangelicals from pulling the lever for Vitter or keeping them home. Weâll see.”
I honestly wonder if this ad won’t backfire on Edwards. It’s an arrogant, hypocritical ad that is flogging a dead horse. If you look at Vitter’s record, you’ll see that he’s the better choice.
“Heâs more Republican then some of our RINOs and that is no joke.”
At least our RINOs don’t vote for Obama twice and be so supportive of him that you go as a delegate to the Dem Convention to nominate him.
“People in LA don’t know that Edwards is an Obama lackey; Edwards is leading at least 52-40 in polls with just thirteen days to go. Vitter should have thought twice about running for governor; many won’t reward him with the governorship with a year left in his Senate term.”
Actually the poll that you’re quoting is more than a week old. The latest poll, conducted on the 4th with a larger sample, shows Edwards ahead only by 8, suggesting that the race is closing. Additionally, I don’t think Edwards would run a risky ad like this if he thought he was safely ahead. Also, don’t forget how most of the polls predicted Conway was ahead in Kentucky only to end up being a 9-point blowout for Matt Bevin.
“Itâs just what the Dems have to run with because all the dirty laundry has already been hung out to dry on Vitter. I make my voting decision on Vitter’s overall conservative record and there is no way in hell Iâd vote for Edwards.”
Well said. Although Vitter is by no means perfect, the alternative is a pretend conservative who strongly supported Obama and, even though he claims to be pro-life, opposed efforts to defund Planned Parenthood.
Conservatives who feel hesitant supporting Vitter should look at his record in the Senate. It’s much more conservative than many.
“Hilarious whenever a Democrat hits back on a Republican’s infidelity considering they’re the party that worships JFK, the ultimate womanizer.”
Well said. And don’t forget Bill Clinton.
“WELCOME TO FREE REPUBLIC...I THINK YOU NEW HERE TO TAKE A POLE”
Thank you. I’m new here, although years ago I was a member too. I am interested in getting conservatives elected and wanted to get a sense of what the conservatives on Free Republic thought of this ad.
“Help get out the Vote for Vitter.
Early voting started Saturday.
Edwards is an Obama liberal who is lying through his teeth on his position to get elected.
Put pressure on Angelle and Dardene supporters to come back home.
Dardene pulled a Benedict Arnold and went with the liberal!”
Agreed! I’m doing what I can to get conservatives to vote for Vitter!
“You either are taking a long nap after posting this, or you are a troll.”
Since I’m new to Free Republic, they have a delay on approving my comments. Additionally, I was away from my PC for quite a while. I assure you I am no troll.
Possibly. Unfortunately, the election history for Republicans with a record of moral problems is pretty grim.
If you look at Vitterâs record, youâll see that heâs the better choice.
That has nothing whatever to do with what I'm saying. I'm not talking about what I would do; I'm positing the likely political fallout.
“Possibly. Unfortunately, the election history for Republicans with a record of moral problems is pretty grim.”
Don’t forget that Vitter was re-elected to the Senate in 2010. I know that he has a real battle on his hands, but I hope he wins because I just don’t trust John Bel Edwards.
What Vitter did was done in private and his wife had forgiven him and they had fixed their marriage before it ever became public.
NO WAY I am voting for a Democrat.
These ads are disgusting and show that the (D) will do anything but talk about VITTERS RECORD which has been excellent for Louisiana.
I don’t know why Vitter wanted to be governor, but I am voting for a conservative that likes hookers rather than a Democrat who will make me the hooker.
” ...but I am voting for a conservative that likes hookers rather than a Democrat who will make me the hooker.”
LOL!
The problem is though, that Edwards wouldn’t even treat you as a person engaged in a “consensual business transaction”. His actions would be much closer to an all out RAPE!
” ...Don’t forget that Vitter was re-elected to the Senate in 2010... “
Yep. Vitter easily won re-election in the jungle primary (against 11 others on the ballot!) by beating the 50% threshold to win out right with 56.55%. The lone dem couldn’t even break above 38% of the vote.
