There's little doubt that Trump has become one of the figures most responsible for shaping policy on his signature issue: Illegal immigration. Republicans from the state to federal level have worked to enact tighter illegal immigration laws, as the issue has gained prominence on the campaign trail.
"For the the longest time we saw a lot of very little anti-illegal immigrant measures happen at the federal level, or complete inaction at the federal level, and then we saw the states going in the opposite direction, and seeking policies that recognized the value of illegal immigrants to the economy, to the community," ie: cheap labor, Melissa Keaney, an attorney at the left wing pro-illegal immigration reform National Immigration Law Center told Business Insider.
"Now things have turned on their head. ... It's a disturbing trend."
Since launching his presidential run earlier this year, Trump has been one of the most prominent Republicans calling for the end of so-called "sanctuary cities." That name has been colloquially bestowed upon refering to localities that do not comply with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement orders to detain illegal immigrants living in the US illegally beyond their release date, if they're picked up for a low-level any crime.
"This senseless and totally preventable act of violence committed by an illegal immigrant is yet another example of why we must secure our border immediately," Trump said earlier this year, referencing the death of a woman, 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle, killed by an illegal immigrant living in the US without permission.
"This is an absolutely disgraceful situation, and I am the only one that can fix it," he added. "Nobody else has the guts to even talk about it. That won't happen if I become president."
“How an honest article should read...”
Absolutely! That was my immediate reaction. It’s their old “tell a lie often enough” strategy...if they consistently omit “illegal” it furthers their attempt at slandering Trump.
I think Mr. Trump could help his poll numbers if he asked for “quotes” from EXISTING AMERICAN-owned fencing and wall-building firms to seal each mile of our border. Then publish that cost estimate, and get America to “buy-in”.
After that, all the fake-conservative open-borders lackeys can no longer claim, “We can’t afford it!”
After that, the “compassionate elite” would be forced to explain why giving raises to their newly scarce maids, housekeepers and gardeners is just “too expensive” for THEM.
I do not want to wait one single day to start building that wall after President Trump is sworn in.
Therefore, I will be devastated if Trump says he CAN’T build the wall until AFTER Mexico “pays up”! AFTER?
Bait-and-switch, anyone?
Good posting. Amazing, isn’t it, how the media seems to always forget the term “illegal” in their articles.
Trump could have a lot of fun with that.
