Real-estate mogul Donald Trump piled on presidential rival Ben Carson after an explosive Friday story revealed he had fabricated his history with West Point.
"WOW, one of many lies by Ben Carson! Big story," Trump reacted on Twitter.
The Republican businessman also retweeted a series of supporters slamming Carson, such as one who wrote: "How anyone could see him as president baffles me. Lies and insane theories."
Earlier in the afternoon, Politico's Kyle Cheney reported that Carson's campaign acknowledged that the candidate had not been offered a scholarship to attend the US Military Academy at West Point, as the inspirational author wrote in his memoir, "Gifted Hands."
That admission followed a prominent CNN investigation, which aired Thursday, detailing the network's efforts to find corroborating evidence for other parts of Carson's history...
CNN reported that it talked to people who knew Carson 50 years ago, when the incidents were said to have occurred, but no one was familiar with Carson's attacks. The retired neurosurgeon blasted the report as a "bunch of lies" on Friday, insisting that he had not provided enough details for the media to invade the privacy of his victims.
Trump has also repeatedly taunted Carson over the CNN investigation and his unusual theory about the origins of the Egyptian pyramids.
"He hit a friend in the face with a [rock]. He tried to kill somebody with a knife and he said he suffers from pathological disease. OK?" Trump said in a interview set to air on Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor" later Friday, according to a transcript. "When you suffer from pathological disease, you’re not really getting better unless you start taking lots of pills and things."
He added: "There's something very strange here, there’s something very strange that's going on." (Snip)

The reality is the media's SUDDEN obsession with Dr. Carson can be traced to the results of the latest Quinnipiac poll showing that, among white voters, Hillary Clinton loses to ALL GOP candidates... GOP gets 56 (+/-); Clinton 44 ( +/-).
The Dems/media have to take out Carson- and they will- Trump doesn't have to tick off Carson's supporters.

Trump should stay quiet on this. Carson seems to be imploding.
This should help Trump get those 24% of Carson supporters! Seriously, what Ben did was wrong, but if Trump would shut up he could probably get some of those votes, but instead he’s going to make an ass out of himself and get even with Carson. Does he think this is going to get Carson’s supporters to back him? Cruz’s plan is coming together now.
If it comes from CNN or Politico it is probably a lie!

Trump, please, stay out of this one. There is plenty to criticize Carson on without this. The press is lying, again. Don’t get caught taking temporary advantage of a lie.
The Donald may want to try for facts rather than a hit piece from Polutico. The Left could end up getting a two’fer if they can now paint Donald as a Vindictive Racist!
Might have been strategically smarter for Trump to side (at least somewhat) with Carson against the unhinged media. Carson’s numbers were likely to deflate in the coming weeks anyway, and if not, Trump could have started to highlight Carson’s weakness on illegals/amnesty.
Carson is doing as well as he is because nobody has been going after him. Now he’s a threat, so people are starting to go after him. But I don’t much credence in the Carson v. Hillary poll, because at this point Carson is just a blank to most people so it’s just a popularity poll about Hillary. That will change.
So Trump takes the side of Politico and the rest of the Leftist media in the electronic lynching of Dr. Carson. No conservative would do that. He is toast. Go Ted!!!

Trump made a mistake here and he needs to say so, even call up Carson and apologize for piling on.
totally agree...this is 1 time Trump should stay totally quiet or even a bit understanding...the damage is done, don’t pile on to a really good person who made rather minor mistakes in a book long ago. Compared to the lies in Obama’s books and the total lie his presidency is, this is minor.

This is probably not a wise thing for him to do at this point.

I am a Carson supporter and none of this stuff bothers me. But if Dr. Carson is forced out, I blame Trump and I will never vote for him.
Maybe Trump sorta likes being the story...

My friend, it’s not a Carson v. Hillary poll-— It’s that Clinton loses app. 57-43 against all the GOP contenders among white voters.
Clinton and the media have to lay claim to, and energize
a massive black turnout, if she has any chance of winning.
I’m for Cruz too, and I see this as a cheap shot by Trump (who I actually think is good for the party ). This just cheapens him. (I like Trump and Carson too but Cruz is my #1 pick).
