Marco Rubio campaign says state GOP credit card use rules unclear
CNN ^ | 11/6/15 | Chris Frates

Marco Rubio has spent a lot of time recently explaining how he used a Florida Republican Party American Express card, insisting that when he made personal charges, he paid for them himself.

But there's an even more basic question about Rubio's Amex use, whether he should have been charging personal expenses to the corporate card in the first place.

When Rubio was using the card, the Republican Party of Florida's policies stated that corporate cards were for "business use only," according to a report by an outside law firm that conducted an independent investigation into credit card expenditures at the state party's request.

So why was Rubio using the card to charge personal expenses in the first place? According to Rubio's camp, nobody knew the policy.

Top Rubio campaign aides point to a February 2010 statement from a party spokeswoman who said at the time "there are no formal party rules or bylaws that govern credit card expenses."

You’d have to be really stupid to think that even the clueless GOP would pick up the tab for a $134 haircut, Marco.

We don’t need another liar, who feels entitled because they are so special, taking that chair in the Oval Office.

Ha. Rubio is already laying the ground work for excuses.
He would not be laying these type of excuses if his GOP CC Transactions
we’re above board.

so he's already making excuses

His excuse is revealing. If the rules are "unclear" one depends on their personal ethics. And Rubio didn't see anything wrong with parking his personal expenses on a state credit card for awhile.

If he reimbursed all the personal charges it is not a big deal, IMO. If he did not reimburse for charges that were clearly personal it is a much bigger issue.

These State Credit Card stories are old news. Charlie Christ tried to use this when Rubio destroyed him. It isn’t gong to work this time either.

This is the kind of political weasel-words that legal types want to use to cover themselves.

I don’t support Rubio, but his answer should have been:

“As anyone with a business credit card knows, there are times when a personal expense ends up on a corporate card and you reimburse that expense in a timely manner. That was done in these cases.”

Of course, the whole problem is that there were some questions about whether the personal expenses were properly receipted and reimbursed in a timely manner, but that is a far less politically damaging issue than saying “the rules were unclear.”

Precisely. Get it out in the open now Not after he is chosen as a running mate ( see Romneys reason for not choosing Rubio)

Anybody that has ever had a corporate credit card KNOWS that it is for business purposes {stretching business purposes as far as you choose, given your value to the company}.

rubio can lie as much as he chooses, but most people know that he used his corporate card for personal reasons.

I don't know if it illegal, but it is not right.

The only reason he repaid the personal usage amounts is because he got caught.

Marco Rubio says double-billing of nearly $3,000 for flights was 'mistake'

He got caught, so naturally it was mistake.

Goes straight to Kid Rubio's lack of ethics.

So what Rubio is really saying is that he has no Common Sense when he was using the card, or cards and that Satan made him run up all those charges.

I had a corporate credit card for many years. Never, not once, did I ever put a personal expense on it.
Of course I had to do an accounting for the card uses at the end of every month.

Generally, when you get a corporate card....you get a list of instructions and there’s some audit every year to review how you used the card. When some guy says there’s no rules...he’s a fraud.

I don’t really care. He already paid for any charges that were personal a long time ago. I’m not for Rubio but he shouldn’t be feeding this story or making excuses. He should simple say I made an innocent mistake that I quickly corrected unlike Benghazi no one died.

Rubio was not born wealthy, but it is not like he has had no decent income since he got out of school. He has.

He has had several good paying jobs in government and politics all with really good benefits and generous expense accounts. He is simply very bad at his personal finances.

I think his poor personal finances are important, much like Obama and his piss poor personal finances.

When Obama went to LA for the 2000 Democrat National Convention his credit cards where so maxed out he couldn’t rent a car. Yet he was a sitting States Senator with a sixty-five thousand dollar salary, $111. per day per diem, expense account and a wife with a six figure ‘no work’ job at a hospital also with top notch benefits and an expense account.

“Rubio was not born wealthy, but it is not like he has had no decent income since he got out of school. He has.”

That’s the problem with the “not born wealthy” crowd. Too often, those that then seek political office do so because they see it as a get rich quick job. And too many then tend to overspend once they get lots of money in their hands. Obama is the perfect example of this. He spends like a madman, because he is, and was born “poor” too.
