Newly minted Republican presidential front-runner late Wednesday night went online to further a narrative that he has been using for weeks on the campaign trail, describing a childhood filled with homelessness, hunger and hard times.
The retired surgeon used his Facebook page sometime after 11 p.m. to post a rambling defense of his lack of political experience, his pride at his years as a neurosurgeon, and a hard-luck boyhood in which he says he witnessed segregation first-hand.
'I grew up poor. I know what it is like to be homeless and hungry. I know the pain of poverty... I know what it is like to see water fountains you are not allowed to drink out of because of your skin color,' Carson wrote.
'I also know that once you peel back the skin, the brain is the same no matter what your skin color or continent you live on.'

I think he’s going for the black vote. Trump said Carson’s donors are totally running his campaign, right down to his appearances.
For those who remember, it was exactly four years ago at this time that Herman Cain reached the apogee of his campaign. Like Carson, he came out of nowhere and knocked off the frontrunner - at least for a short time.
But then in early November, the "bimbo eruptions" began to happen and by the time Thanksgiving rolled around, Cain folded up his campaign like a cheap suit and made haste for the hinterlands. But he also had some rather bizarre behavior towards the end. Almost like he felt he got himself in over his head and was looking for a reason to quit.
I guess it must be scary running for president as a lark and then suddenly realizing that you might just win.

I'm only a year older than Carson and I sure saw "Whites Only" bathrooms and "Colored" water fountains on a trip to Texas with my parents in 1962. I was 12 and remember it well.

I would rather have a Mind like Carson’s in the Oval office than any creepy thing in it now. Cruz, Trump or Carson would be a 500% improvement and I would trust him to put moral, smart people in positions of power.

He is old enough to have seen segregated water fountains. But did MD have this kind of segregation: it had segregation in schools until c. 1954?
