Wednesday on Fox Business Network's "Varney & Co.," Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), ....... insisted that his tax plan that would abolish the Internal Revenue Service, isn’t a “pie in the sky” proposal, as FBN host Stuart Varney suggested it was.
"Well, you know it's interesting," he said. "If you go back to 1981 when Ronald Reagan was elected president, he wanted to cut the top marginal tax rate from 70 percent to 28 percent. Every observer said that's pie in the sky, that will never happen and especially that will never happen with a Democratic House of Representatives and Tip O'Neill as speaker of the House."
"And what Reagan did is he took the case to the American people and he made the case that with economic growth, we can turn this country around," he continued. "And we went from the stagflation, the misery and malaise of the Carter years to the seven fat years, to the booming Reagan growth. My tax plan, a simple flat tax is designed to do the same thing and we're going to do the same thing by taking it to the American people by coming out of this election with a mandate from the people."

As an accountant I agree with you. I have not read any details of his tax plan for business, but I guess I should, because he seems like too smart a guy to propose that.
After abolishing the IRS, how will it be verified that people are not cheating on their income tax?

No he so far as failed to put that little pearl out there on display. I am grading Ted’s tax plan as an epic fail.
Trump has a tax plan that will actually spur business development and create jobs. Will it cost money? Yes but look what it took to put us in this ditch. Its going to cost to get things put back together.

Question, what effective tax rates do businesses really pay? How do they negate the effects of them? If you said zip and by raising costs of products to make up for them, you may be closer to right than what the rest of your screed is.
BTW - Joe Public will be able to do his taxes on a postcard and nobody in the world, who actually thinks would think that, even businesses would be able to do their taxes on a postcard...
If you feel so strongly, then donate to a campaign that you think will achieve your goals (and don't forget FR) so you can say you did your part in trying to make things right as you see them - too many miss the big picture because they are concerned about their own personal situation - when that happens, nothing can ever get done to set things right because anything worth doing will have a negative impact on some folks, so selfishness among "conservatives" will also thwart conservatism....

I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader.....

The owner of the little party store in my town says he likes the Cruz plan because the money saved on not having to keep an accountant on retainer alone is worth his support.
Yep - funny how some folks who claim to be conservative, and who use a conservative Forum, find so many reasons to destroy the most conservative choices we have.

A consistent conservatives are tossed overboard for the latest political Justin Beiber to hit the scene. Chris Christie for example is one who spent some time as the last great conservative hope of FReepers. If I wanted to destroy conservatism, its exactly the sort of thing I would do if I were the Democrat or GOPe parties.
I challenge any long time FReeper to go back and look at threads about Trump from just a few years ago to see what they and those around them were saying about Trump. Many of those who condemned Trump as a liberal Scumbag in the last election are treating him like some kind of conservative god king today.

Now THAT is a winning issue.

In fact, just the other day a Trump supporter here on FR said that very thing to me---Cruz is too conservative. Couple that with the fact that some other Trump fans have openly stated support for universal healthcare, and shrugged off abortion as no big deal, and it's pretty clear why you see so much ankle-biting on Cruz threads.
They say they're confident that their unstoppable juggernaut is going to waltz right into the White House, yet they sure do seem bothered by Cruz.

I understand your concerns with Trump and I remember how everyone fawned over Rubio when he hit the scene because he presented as a conservative Latino. Even more recently some were taking to Rand Paul as a "reborn conservative" because he had a short streak of talking like one.
Can't put my finger on it, but except for Cruz, Trump causes me the least angst when considering him for President. Carson gives me the heebie jeebies and whatsherface (Fiorina) strikes me as a Rubio only due to sex vs. race and may have even deeper issues than he does as far as being conservative. If it isn't Cruz or Trump in the end, next November will be a lousy time.

Can't argue with anything you said. Too many fall for the "he's so conservative he can't be elected meme and others have a pet peeve about a single issue that they don't understand but they use it to declare him "not conservative".

So if you're an employee, Cruz' proposal will amount to a 10% flat income tax for income over $35k/yr, replacing ALL other taxes.
