Has the company filed in court to limit liability on this ship too in case of loss of life?

Built in an American shipyard? Hmm, you just don’t hear that very much these days.

“With the designation LGI (liquid gas injection), all ME/ME-C/ME-B engines are available for operation on low flashpoint liquid (LFL) fuels like methanol, ethanol, LPG and DME. The engines are operated as dual-fuel engines with high-pressure injection. These engines have the same fuel consumption as similar diesel engines, and the same tuning methods can be applied.”

Seems they can change their mind and go back to Diesel, if
they choose, later on. When no one is looking.

And actually registering a vessel this size in the United States is
even more rare.

I’m guessing the ship went through the Panama Canal, to make it in 14 days. Good to hear the ship was built in the US.

US construction, ownership, registration and crewing is required by the World War I era Jones Act for cargo from one US port to another (including Puerto Rico); the ship that sank and this one are on the Florida-Puerto Rico route.

Built in an American shipyard?

Required by the Jones Act - Makes the ship more expensive and goods arriving in PR more expensive.

The Jones Act also requires American ownership of American made ships.

Might ask the Canadian National RR how they came to own the US Steel iron ore fleet on the Great Lakes.

The Jones-Shafroth Act 1917 only Made Puerto Rico a pseudo
state. That would be one of the few reasons to register
a ship in the U.S. Any U.S. registered ship can be boarded
by the Military or Coastguard any where in the world for
any or no reason and can be commandeered.
