In response to what the Seattle mayor calls a growing homeless crisis in the city, Ed Murray signed a proclamation declaring a civil emergency.
More than 2,800 men, women, and children are without shelter on the streets of Seattle, which is a 21 percent increase from last year, according to the latest overnight count.
"We are in a moment of our history where decades of service cuts, growing inequality, and untreated mental health and drug [addiction] has finally resulted in a human crisis seen in the history of our city -- indeed in the history of our nation," Murray said.(snip)
Many Ballard residents say they were "blindsided" over summer plans to put that homeless camp in their neighborhood. Itâs located in a lot that sits near a bar, Sloop Tavern, and not far from a medical marijuana dispensary and a liquor store.

Welcome to Obamaville, suckers!
Quick - raise the minimum wage to $20/hour!
Bet that minimum wage hike helped out.
It’s simple. Stop providing medical care, feeding, clothing and housing them for free. You are enabling them to continue spending every dime they cage on alcohol and drugs. (Are the politicians stupid, or the voters?)
‘Rat Utopian policies - Coming Home.....To ROOST!
Hawaii recently was declaring a homeless emergency too.
Is homelessness a problem in the era of Obama??? I’m shocked.
Raise taxes on the evil wealthy and make the minimum wage $25! That’ll fix it!..............
Which is strictly a coincidence, I am sure. Just buy them one way bus tickets to Los Angeles where the climate is nicer.
Well, now, that's what I call convenience! Hope the Methadone clinic is close by.
Despite its liberal antecedents Seattle has had a rather vigorous and even repressive past with respect to the homeless, especially near Pioneer Square. Now, however, the inmates are running the asylum. Sure am glad I'm out of there.
Was it Newt who said that anything you subsidize will grow? In answer to your question, both.
Shouldn’t Microsoft, Amazon and Starbucks be helping out?
Hey aren’t all the big-time Libs opening up their homes for these less fortunate?
I think I see the problem..................
But how can this be? We have a Democrat in the White Hut.
Refresh my memory. Which party owns Seattle?
Electing more socialists to City Council seats will probably help this problem.
Of course, “helping this problem” means “making the problem worse,” but that’s the idea, right, Professors Cloward and Piven?
Is it the legal dope or the $15/hr. minimum wage?
“”We are in a moment of our history where decades of service cuts, growing inequality, and untreated mental health and drug [addiction] has finally resulted in a human crisis seen in the history of our city — indeed in the history of our nation,” Murray said.”
Well, that and we now have one or two generations of ‘mericans raised with the liberal entilement mentality....Gimmme gimmme gimmmeee
South Park is a great place for homeless pamphlets popping up all over now.
Get used to it. Liberal policies are guaranteed to increase the number of ne're do wells.
Legalized pot smoking coupled with irrational increases in minimum wage are bound to attract a lot of the wrong sort.
