Aloha to the US: Is Hawai'i an occupied nation?
BBC News ^ | November 1, 2015 | Taylor Kate Brown

Recognition would define native Hawaiians as a separate political entity - protecting many of the federal programmes currently provided to native Hawaiians, like favourable housing loans, a land trust programme, health care, educational and cultural grants.

It would also allow for an element of economic independence, although one industry that has enriched a few Native American tribes - gambling - is banned in Hawai'i.

As I understand it, if a state allows any kind of legal gambling—lottery, casinos, card rooms, maybe even bingo, then the state cannot outlaw tribal gambling. I believe Hawaii has a complete ban on legal gambling, so the Hawaiian ‘tribe’ is out of luck—at least for the time being. No doubt they would lobby hard for a change in the law.

Correct. Whoever controls Hawaii controls the Pacific.

Hawaii was made part of the US because otherwise it would have been part of the British Empire or Russia (I'm not kidding - there was a Russian fort on Kauai).

An independent Hawaii would become a Chinese satellite very quickly.

Which is really a minor inconvenience. Right? In my position I travel the world quite frequently and it’s really no bother.

Invaders are the way of the world. If invasions and unwelcome migrations are to be unwound, how far back do we unwind them?

Hawaii, whatever the century old facts might be, voted for statehood in a fair and free election. Story over.

These racists need to get over it. They can be proud of their heritage and culture without being assholes about it.

San Jose, CA? I lived there until 1998 and it was way too expensive for migrants. Has Silicon Valley gone third world?

I have been assured on this very forum that the US is/was an imperialist nation. Cuba, puerto rico, and more, I suppose.
We have adopted as ours the mantle thrust upon us by the Marxists.

I refuse

And there is nothing in the constitution that inspires us or recommends to us anything regarding imperialism.

They can all get over it

The difference between Hawaii and Florida is like the Ritz-Carlton and a Motel 6.

So, let me see if I’ve got this right.

They get ‘recognition’ and their independence, but they don’t want TOO MUCH independence, since they insist on keeping favorable housing loans, a land trust program, health care, plus educational and cultural grants.

Is there anything in there that requires congress to wipe their butts for them, or will they manage that ‘independence’ for themselves?

But banned by the occupiers. How many people realize it was the Democrats that made the coup and armed takeover happen. This state should be a sovereign nation.

Let them keep their 2 Democrat Senators and Dem House member(s) and we keep the welfare we send there in cargo ships.

I think we should sell Hawaii to an Asian country and use the cash to buy Baja.

Hmmm, cut Hawaii loose, and then I can move there after I am out of office... no extradition to USA would be a nice finishing touch after I commit my last acts of treason.

I remember only that the Dole pineapple plantation owners engineered statehood. Or something.
