Many animals get cancer just like humans do, but there are a few mysterious species that rarely develop it.... A few animals don't seem to get cancer very often, or at all. Understanding why could help us treat it, or even prevent it.....

I didn’t know naked mole rats lived that long. Pretty impressive for a rodent.

Many of the pets living in households with Human smokers generating second-hand smoke inhalation and lab animals subjected to a smoker’s environment for testing purposes.

Recently saw a story about Elephants not developing it too and are being studied at a Ele-Retirement home in Fl
For them it may be an all leafy green diet?

This article comments on how elephants are equipped with so many more copies of a cancer preventing mechanism than Humans.

Thanks for posting, Whiskey. Very interesting article — it never occurred to me that there was such a wide variation in rates of animal cancers. I just sent to my daughter who is in a veterinary program.

See the part of the article where it says:

Part of the explanation came in October 2015. The elephant genome turned out to contain a lot of copies of a known cancer-fighting gene. Known as p53, it is a tumour suppressor. Most mammals have it, including humans, but we only have one copy whereas elephants have 20.

In the last 10 years, I have had 4 dogs pass on. Two from cancer, lymphoma. One old age. And one had a heart attack or something.

No smoking here.
