In a rare late-night session, the Senate gave final approval to an ambitious budget and debt deal early Friday, sending it to President Barack Obama to sign.
The final vote on passage was 64-35, as Democrats joined forces with Republican defense hawks over the objections of GOP presidential candidates Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Marco Rubio, all of whom voted against the deal. The bill is aimed at averting a debt default, avoiding a partial government shutdown and setting spending priorities for the next two years.
Earlier in Friday's session, the Senate voted 63-35 to end debate on the measure. The vote to approve the bill was taken just after 3 a.m. EDT.
Obama negotiated the accord with Republican and Democratic leaders who were intent on steering Congress away from the brinkmanship and shutdown threats that have haunted lawmakers for years. Former Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, felt a particular urgency days before leaving Congress, while lawmakers looked ahead to presidential and congressional elections next year.

The GOP twits knew how to stop Cruz and Paul from Filibustering. By passing this right when they were busy going to a debate and unable to get back in time to do anything.
it’s time for any of those. Preferably overthrow before collapse.
They only got back in time for the vote. They weren’t allowed a chance to speak. And have become mired in trying to fix the debates. SO they were not able to do anything but vote.
How in the world did they get 63 votes to end debate after just hours?
Aren’t there 53 or 54 republican Senators...something like that.
To get 63 that means that they had to have something like 10 Senators peel off right from the get-go.
This is not a conservative party. It is an embarrassment.
Within 15 years, and that’s with interest rates staying extremely low 2% or less, the nation will be borrowing as much as it takes in to pay for an ever growing federal budget. OR, they will have to double taxes.
Either way, they will kill the goose, and it will be all downhill from that point onward.
The end of the USA as we know it in 15 years, if this isn’t stopped. After that, we become a crumbling civilization of peons and aristocracy.
Conservatism...a dirty word? We've lost control of our gubbamint. They are no longer servants of the people, rather oligarchs doing what's best for the lil people.
Congrease passed it. Make THEM pay it!
That’s why it has to be Cruz.
Hah! Remember all the Freepers pointing out Roberts’ stellar voting record in the years leading up to 2014? I remember saying, “A year after this election he’ll be back to normal.” I said, “I’m not voting lesser of two evils anymore.” They all gave the tired retort, “Harry Reid thanks you.” Well, who is Harry Reid thanking now? I’m so sick of Lesser Of Two Evils drones.
“Well there you go. Haven’t gotten the list of “no’s” yet but I am sure we will soon. 63 is Filibuster proof. Rand Paul gave an effort but failed big time. Nothing new with Republican show offs lately. “
20 minutes isn’t an effort. Not even a token effort.
Also Shelly Capito and Thune. Very, very disappointing. The bastard Orin Hatch, who just recently swore to us conservatives that he learned his lesson and would be a good boy from now on (after Sarah Palin endorsed him).
Uniparty Rules!
McTurtle and 100% of the Demoncrats give 0bama 100% of what he wants.
“Kansas: Roberts (R-KS), Yea”
I remember some FReeper chasing me around saying that Roberts was actually conservative.
Ha!
I’m two days short of being able to “claim and suspend”. For me, this worked out to $100 000, more or less.
Stolen. At 3:15 am. For drug addicts.
By the Republican Congress.
In the dead of night. How appropriate.
Secret deal. Done in secret.
Not enough time for Reps to read what is in the bill.
Strong arm intimidation to vote FOR it.
Passes in the middle of the night.
Fully funds Obama’s entier Marxist agenda. Fully funds Planned Holocaust.
I keep saying it - we went full Soviet.
The Republic no longer exists - and next year’s election - is already a shell game farce that is just held for show.
The Oligarchy will install our rulers.
Just you watch.
Congress just passed a major revision of the Social Security law at 3:15 AM, carefully avoiding public debate or comment. They knew that if they waited until even 9AM a telephone firestorm would have erupted on the capitol switchboard. This is what we now laughingly call “representative democracy”.
Just for show.
In the case of something like Britain vis a vis the independence of India, yes. But it takes a decent government to do it. An indecent one will hang on tooth and nail.
Wow. Thank you Uniparty!
Maybe you can ask them to increase your monthly chocolate ration to two grams.
