CNBC’s Republican Debate Notches 14 Million Viewers [Greatest in Their History]
Variety ^ | October 29, 2015 | Brian Steinberg

CNBC said its Wednesday-night telecast of a debate among Republican candidates for U.S. President lured an average of 14 million viewers, making it the most-watched broadcast on the NBCUniversal-owned cable outlet in its history.

CNBC’s audience for the telecast was significantly lower than the crowds lured by Fox News Channel and CNN for similar events. A Republican debate broadcast in August by Fox News attracted an average of 24 million viewers, while a Republican debate broadcast in September by CNN won an average of 23.1 million viewers.

For CNBC, however, the numbers were meaningful. The network said it the broadcast of the debate was its most-watched night in network history in all key demos. The network snared an average of 3.9 million adults between 25 and 54 and an average of 3.4 million adults between 18 and 49 for its debate coverage.

The telecast, held at the Coors Events Center at the University of Colorado Boulder and moderated by Becky Quick, Carl Quintanilla and John Harwood, was not without controversy. Several Republican candidates expressed some outrage at some of the questions that were asked.

Megyn Kelly is pleased she is no longer the “Worst Debate Moderator Ever”.

And 14 million viewers saw CNBC commentators exposed as world class A-holes.

Which is why the Candidates should take over the process from the GOP. The viewers are showing up to see the candidates. They should be using this leverage to get rid of these clown moderators and their absurd questions

They figured Trump would boost the viewers, so CNBC took every chance they could to attack the candidates.

The next debate will have a select panel equipped with baskets of rotten fruit, buckets of soapy water, cans of whipped cheese and confetti.

14 million viewers saw the media being exposed for what they are? It’s a start.

I caught a few moments of Kelly’s show last night. She was critiquing the performance of the moderators and asked her panel if there questions were or were not appropriate. I thought it ironic that she is now raising questions about the bias of moderators. She must still be smarting from Mr. Trump’s slamming of her performance as a moderator.

You are correct and I assumed it would be no problem to do so, but National Review has an article this morning that explains it is not as easy to do as it appears.

Each debate costs about $2 million to produce which is borne by the network showing the debate, so where does that money come from and who is going to show the debate? National Review does suggest there are alternatives, such as Yahoo. A debate can be live streamed, etc. I'll go with Yahoo - it will drive the networks ever crazier they are not part of the process. A great thought.

How much money did CNBC make in Ads for this? Offer the deal to Fox, they baulk, go to CNN or MSNBC and they will leap at the deal.

Yeah, it is actually that easy but what would an NRO pundit know about running a business or making a deal.

After months of the MSM/DC attempting to get Trump to apologize for anything, Trump was the only one in the debate to get an apology from the MSM Moderators!

El perfecto!

I saw Megyn Kelly’s post-debate show too. I thought I saw her flinch when the RNC spokesman mentioned the “gotcha” questions. You could tell that Megyn was uncomfortable with a lot of the analysis.

but National Review has an article this morning that explains it is not as easy to do as it appears.

That's only if it's considered in the context that it is currently being done. You could book a ballroom at one of Trump's hotels, host 100 / 200 people in the audience and send a stream or video of it over to OAN, NewsMax TV, whoever; who then would broadcast it to their viewers.

The technology exists today that ensures the quality of service as well as the efficiency. What it doesn't do is provide as much leverage of the networks over the parties, not to mention union scales for all the setup and tear down of the stage and network broadcast equipment from the host venue.

“And 14 million viewers saw CNBC commentators exposed as world class A-holes.”

If the objective was ratings, the CNBC characters did very very well. Consider their goals, they may not be yours, or the candidates. An A-hole who can generate such ratings, such buzz, may be doing exactly what he set out to do.

Each debate costs about $2 million to produce

How much did this one cost?

Now that the slew of candidates have formed into a solid line opposed to the enemedia (except yeb!, who remains on the side of the enemedia), they could roll their own debate. How about going cross-country on Acela, stopping in the various cities along the way, for a series of real debates.

Errrr...Acela runs from Boston to Washington. There is no overhead wire in the rest of the country.

You must mean Amtrak. And, if the candidates counted on Amtrak to carry them across the country, they'd risk running up to 24 hours behind schedule. And being insulted when they asked why.

Which is to be expected, since Amtrak is run by the government.

Better off to rent a convoy of stagecoaches...
