COLUMBIA, S.C. The Justice Department will investigate an episode at a high school here in which a white police officer is seen in a video upending the desk of a black female student in a math class and dragging her when she refused to leave the classroom.
The video of a deputy sheriff, Ben Fields, in the classroom quickly went viral, and prompted the Richland County Sheriff, Leon Lott, to ask federal officials to investigate the encounter at Spring Valley High School. On the departments Facebook page on Tuesday, Sheriff Lott said the federal investigation had begun. Local law enforcement officials believe that the criminal investigation will be best served with the F.B.I. as the lead agency, Sheriff Lott said, adding that the state police had also been asked to investigate.

If you believe her friends in the class. Heck little St Skittles and Gentle Giant were both described as kind to their mothers and not someone that would ever behave badly.
The fact she behaved in such a bad manner that the teacher directed her to leave the room, that she then refused the teachers direction to leave the room, admin would be in no position to ‘make her leave.’ Police needed to be called. This not the old days where a student respected authority and could suffer consequences administered by a teacher or admin. . .both are powerless, the police were the only option.

She refused to give the teacher her phone....guessing she was using it during class.....then the admin. asked her for the phone....that’s when they called in an officer......or do you think some PUNK KID doesn’t have to OBEY AN ORDER from her Superior??? If that’s your definition of Facist, so be it.
Your kids must be angels.
Given in that context, you would be 100% correct.
While I have seen rodney king style snippets of the video, the cop looked overboard in what I have viewed.
Alas however, this administration never letting what it can create to be a good crisis going to waste is going to get lots of people wasted when the general population has had enough (and folks ARE getting tired).
As others on this site have repeatedly said over the past years, if it is bad for America you can bet Obama is for it and will stoke it.
Keep your heads on a swivel out there. Beyond the dindu-nuffins and cops with hair triggered tempers it won’t be long now.
FR popular wisdom: Stop Resisting. Respect authority. Wait for your day in court.
Does that go for this Deputy too?
Looked like he handled it pretty well given the behavior that led up to it.
He got the result that was needed with minimum force applied.
Kudos to the cop!
GET A GRIP!
And yes, I believe her classmates, especially this young man who recorded the incident, and my lying eyes.

I work in a school. Without order, there is complete chaos.
We teachers, in my district, have the legal right to move student physically from point A to point B if the student refuses to move after clearly being told. Thank God it doesn’t happen very often, but I did have to physically toss a kid out of my room once and into some bushes (viciously fighting another smaller, weaker student - I was younger then and wouldn’t do it today)
From what I’ve read, this student defied several orders to move by school authorities.
If this is not handled immediately, the other students get the message that they can defy authority on school grounds and suffer no consequences.
Kids then carry this behavior out into the malls, movie theaters - and workplaces. (kids come in “shocked” after being fired from Jack-in-the-Box for in 1/2 hour late and/or calling in sick whenever they don’t feel like working - one employer told me he has a terrible time finding high school kids who will work on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, IOW, the kids want to tell the employer how it’s gonna be).
You can’t imagine how entrenched this attitude is.
Sorry about the triple post...I was dealing with a malware alert...

Anyone else getting the same?
Yep...was wondering if anyone else was getting the same.
Reported it to mod.
Think there was an issue in the not too distant past regarding the same issue
22 posts in and only now do I find the right question. Kudos to you!
What the cop SHOULD have done is anything that he would not have arrested anyone else for doing. That's what he should have done.
Had that same cop witnessed someone else doing what he did he may well have shot and killed them. Had that been done to him you KNOW he would have shot and killed the person doing it to him.
It's the double standard is what is getting the cops in trouble. One rule for me and another for thee.
It's also the same problem we're having with the IRS, Hillary Clinton, BLM, Harry Reid, and etc. yet for some reason if the hypocrite wears a badge then too many people on FR will blame the victim.
The problem is unaccountable government and unaccountable government agents. Law enforcement, IRS, etc. are all part of the problem and We The People are the solution.
I was a school teacher myself about 15 years ago, and had my share of disorderly students, which I generally handled myself. I don’t have a problem with teachers or administrators physically moving them, but I do have a problem with cops tossing around a non-violent teenage girl over a phone in class.
I can tell you this...lets just say 1978 i was in High School...I obeyed my teachers...and if i dint here comes the coaches...and if the county sheriff had to show up...well my ass was grass and i knew it.
I truly believe Obama is trying to incite race wars so he can establish martial law. Maybe even declare himself dictator for life.
I think someone (the cop’s lawyer maybe) should offer $500 for a video of the language and behavior PRIOR to the cop incident. Every kid in that classroom was filming it, and I’m sure one of them could use a little “walkin around” money. My bet is this sweet young lady had a mouth on her that could be heard all over the school, and a vocabulary of words most of us have never imagined.
I've been saying this on here for a few years.
Get another cop, raze her, use pepper spray, maybe anything other than risk breaking her neck, or concussing her, you know something - anything a bit more reasoned than what he did.
I saw the video, it was way over the top for a response to a verbal refusal.
