For the umpteenth million time, crowd size measures intensity - not depth of support. Sanders draws much bigger crowds than Hillary most of the time, yet he doesn't stand a chance of being their nominee. If crowd size mattered Ron Paul would be President along with President Nader and President McGovern.
I don't think Carson is even campaigning at the moment, he is off on some book tour. Some thing or event obviously happened to boost Carson at the expense of Trump, I suspect it was those stupid quasi truther 9-11 comments "the Donald" made.

It is true that crowd sizes do not equate to votes,
however when the crowd size is 1000 times larger than the opponents, it DOES mean something.
Another reason the media is promoting Carson, he will much easier to take down later than Trump. Rush just agreed with me 30 seconds ago!
