WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Americans' support for the Tea Party has dropped to its lowest level since the movement emerged on the national political scene prior to the 2010 midterm elections. Seventeen percent of Americans now consider themselves Tea Party supporters, and a record 54% say they are neither supporters nor opponents.
The Tea Party emerged in 2009 in opposition to the fledgling Obama administration, and many Americans took sides for or against the movement in the midterm elections the next year. Support peaked at 32% in November 2010, just after those elections, in which Tea Party supporters were widely credited with helping the Republican Party gain control of the U.S. House of Representatives.
As support gradually eroded over the next year, opponents of the Tea Party gained the upper hand and have led supporters in all 10 Gallup polls measuring views of the movement since the start of 2012. Since August 2012, support has failed to reach 25%, and it has fallen below 20% in each of the last two polls.
Meanwhile, opposition peaked at 31% just ahead of last year's midterm elections, but has dropped to 24% in the most recent Gallup poll, conducted Oct. 7-11.
Politics and Ideology Drive Support, Opposition
Support for and opposition to the Tea Party movement have been consistently divided along ideological and political lines over the last five years, with Republicans and conservatives the biggest supporters, and Democrats and liberals the strongest opponents.

Great point, except the electoral college math.
Well we know why the electoral was set up in the first place and it worked; only against us once the left learned how they could use it to their advantage.
Exactly my thought when I read the headline! They screwed up so badly on the last election but we can “trust them when it comes to the Tea Party.” R i g h t !
Ridiculous poll, since the Tea Party isn’t an entity. How about asking how many favor the tenets, such as lower fedgov interference in our live, lower federal spending, etc.
Gallup is too afraid to poll the Presidential race this cycle, so why should we trust them on this political issue?
One possible explanation is that Republican grass roots folk math be less and less likely to say “Tea Party” and now more likely to claim to be anti-establishment.
One thing seems certain: the goals of the Tea Party (a smaller and less intrusive federal government coupled with a deeper respect for the original intent of the Constitution) continues in the citizenry.
Trump, Carson, and Cruz all understand and appeal to that voting bloc.
it is prudent to remember that Obama purpousely and with malice destroyed the tea party
there is no tea party at present
there are however conservatives wandering about searching for a leader
Actually, I think most people are simply sick of the stinking RINO party. Dudden matter what they call themselves on the side.
so....they explain the pundit-befuddling, passionate support for Trump HOW, exactly??
“People who are Tea Partiers dont even know they are.”
You said an awful lot of truth there. The basic Tea Party theme, which in essence can be boiled down to “Making America Great Again”, is certainly alive and well.
Even though many do not want the name tag of “Tea Party” or “Conservative”, they do want there country back, they are tired of the MSM and govt lying, tired of expensive programs that do not work, tired of unemployment, tired of our jobs being moved out of country, just plain tired of the Uniparty/Big Money establishment that is raping all of us.
If we can somehow get an honest election, someone on the order of Trump or Cruz will win, and win big. Unlike the RINO’s winning big, neither of those two will flip off the country and go the establishment route.
I wouldn’t believe Gallup if it was 12 noon and they told me the sun was up.
Snort! How many people actually answered the phone for this poll, and how many actually live in flyover country?
They probably surveyed 500 Democrats. :-)
Here’s the answer right out in front.
“Major drop in support from independents who lean toward GOP”
This has to be a poll buster. Who in their RIGHT MIND would lean toward GOP-e? How many supporters have THEY lost amid the confusion and deceit which has become our DC Elites? The TEA PARTY is still around and still to be reckoned with. No matter how many times they might claim the opposite...they will still be wrong in their assumption.
The AMERICAN way!! No leader yet we are still heard. No leader who would sell his soul to the devil for a few pretty words and a passel of coins. Why would we settle for one such as the one in the oo. Aesop’s fable attempted to tell the tale “The Frogs who desired a King”
Exactly.... Ever wonder if Gallup, et. al provide the dnc info on where to find their enemies? “Click” indeed.
