This is the most dangerous of all gun restrictions. Give the decision to administrators as to who is crazy. Over the next 20 years, it will turn out that everyone except elected democrat officeholders are too crazy to have guns.

Alternative to “gun control” -
Institute a program of training our youth (high school age) in the basics of the care, feeding, use and proper grooming of small defensive weapons. More specifically, hand guns, shotguns, and light rifles, for both respect of potential capabilities, the ability to aim and fire effectively, and the judgment to consider the appropriate use of these devices.
The unstable ones shall be quickly revealed, as they cannot be expected to have the discipline to learn and apply these basic rules. But those that do, are much better equipped, physically and mentally, to resist the wanton misuse of human talent for dangerous acts.
The system works just fine for driver education.
In addition most people with mental illness are not a danger to society. They are more often the victims rather the perpetrators. Removing rights because someone is mentally ill is horrible policy.

As the de-listing of Homosexuality as a mental illness shows (and the coming de-listing of pedophilia...), the list of mental illnesses are rather arbitrary.
The psychiatrists will be working overtime (and billing us for it) to create ‘illnesses’ associated with gun ownership as reasons to prevent it.
This is precisely why doctors have been handing out anti-depressants like candy, because once you are assigned an anti-depressant, you are immediately flagged as a ‘possible problem’ in the nationwide medical database now-
The deal is, that if a ‘mildly depressed’ person who only occasionally takes anti-depressants ever commits a murder- the left will scream bloody murder and demand that ALL people on anti-depressants be barred from owning guns because ‘something bad might happen at some point in the future”
For a couple of months now, every time a person goes into a health clinic, hospital etc- they are asked a series of questions “Do you ever feel down” “Have you ever thought of hurting yourself or others” etc etc etc- (They used to ask “Do you have any guns in the house” but have recently stopped asking that for some reason)
You can see the handwriting on the wall- They ARE preparing to enact gun control based on mental conditions- ANY mental conditions- and you will hear them declare that they have to enact these laws to preempt possible tragedy, and declare that they had ot enact these laws as a matter of national safety- ‘imminent need’ (like cuomo did in NY- declaring it an emergency act that didn’t need congressional approval)
