Sales of diet Pepsi have plunged after the soft drink company behind it changed the recipe.
In a case with echoes of Cokes disastrous introduction of New Coke, Pepsi has faced a huge backlash after replacing the sweetener in the drink. Pepsi chose to remove the controversial sweetener aspartame - linked to cancer in some studies - with sucralose.
But customers arent happy. David Zimdars of Michigan said, It has a nasty aftertaste, and its sickly sweet. You have to wash it out with water.'
Pepsis choice of sucralose - known by the brand name Splenda - has been blasted online, with many consumers describing it as, Yukky.
In the month after the new recipe was introduced, sales of Pepsicos diet drinks dropped 6.6%.

I found the cane sugar Dr. Pepper in my local Walmart a couple of days ago. Love it! I loathe Diet sodas because of the nasty aftertaste. The only diet soda I can tolerate is Dr. Pepper 10.
Yes, you’re right, the nickel Cokes were 6 oz. Had I had my brain on I should have said this style bottle. Duh to me.
I’m glad they changed back because we have not bought one since they came out and announced all their turkeys would be halal. I guess it didn’t go over too well. :-)
Tell him to go to Walmart.com and order some and keep a stash. A 24 can case is about $13, shipping about 5 bucks extra.
Same here. After a year of on again off again experimentation a few years ago, I found that aspartame gives me heart palpatations, except in small aperiodic doses. Aspartame and excessive carbs are the things I look for on food labels, and avoid.
Splenda flavored non-sugar drinks are hard to find in my area. Almost all are apartame based. The Weis Waist Watchers store brand is sweetened with them, and what I usually get.
I actually have purchased the newly formulated Diet Cherry Pepsi explicitly because they got rid of the aspartame. It's OK, but I agree the formula is too sweet. They need to cut back a bit on the Splenda, which IMHO can be pretty good unless you use too much (which Pepsi did). I use liquid Splenda to sweeten coffee as well. It's actually pretty good IMHO, but again you have to be careful not to use too much or you'll get the sickly sweet taste.
The FDA can say what it wants. The stuff gave me a seizure. It’s unsafe for about 1 percent of the population.
As I said, it gave me a seizure.
