Looks bad.
As far as I’ve been able to find all he gave the HFC apparently was a seat on the Steering Committee. That’s something but not enough.
But maybe there’s more. I sure hope so.
Seems he getting his demand for a change in the ‘vacate’ vote too.
Need 30 to vote against him and there’s only about half that. I assume he’d withdraw without sufficient Republican support.
He promised he would use the Hastert Rule
He promised the speaker would not have 5 votes on the steering committee(?)
From Right Wing News: http://rightwingnews.com/column-2/right-wing-news-endorses-paul-ryan-for-speaker-if/
“However, after details about the meeting leaked out, it all started to make sense. First, the The WAPO reported that Ryan had agreed to abide by the Hastert Rule. Thats significant because it means he couldnt push an amnesty bill unless the majority of Republicans in the House went along with it, which is extraordinarily unlikely.”
“...Then Breitbart reported that Ryan actually caved to most of the rule changes that the Freedom Caucus wants.
Among the things that Ryan promised the members were a return to regular order, changes to the steering committee that decides committee assignments centralizing power in the Speakers officeRyan even promised to give up the Speakers five votes on the committeeand an end to retaliation against Republican members who vote their conscience.
“ Ryans spokesman Brendan Bucka former Boehner stafferhasnt denied that Ryan made all of these promises, and several sources, including those in the meeting, have confirmed to Breitbart News that Ryan made them.”
