BRUNSWICK, Maine — Bowdoin College will no longer bestow the Jefferson Davis Award, after the college’s board of trustees voted to approve President Clayton Rose’s proposal to end the practice.
The annual cash award to a student of government and legal studies who excels in constitutional law was named for the Confederate president. It was established in 1972 with an endowed gift from the United Daughters of the Confederacy, according to a news release from the college. In 1858, Davis received an honorary degree from Bowdoin College.

Well, he had to live with them in the same country after the war. And you can have "great respect" for enemies as soldiers without thinking much of their cause. Chamberlain went into politics after the war and revised his views when his initial cordiality towards his old enemies met public disapproval. Maybe he changed them again later after leaving politics, but it's particularly hard to say what he would have done if he were alive in our time.

The Jefferson Davis Award is a Scholarship sponsored by United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Award Information:
Requirements: Applicant must be a lineal descendant of worthy Confederates or collateral descendant who is a member of the Children of the Confederacy or the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be enrolled in an accredited college or university, and carry a minimum of 12 hours each semester. Applicant must be prepared to pass entrance examination of prospective college or university. Applicant must submit proof of Confederate Military Record, line of descent from Confederate ancestor, a letter of endorsement from sponsoring Chapter, a letter of recommendation, complete financial report, official transcripts, an essay on the significance of a southern heritage, and a wallet-size photo. Original and four copies of the application forms and five copies of all documents, certificates, and letters must be submitted to the Division Director of Education. All inquiries must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Recipient chosen by Bowdoin Coll. Eligibility: College freshman, College sophomore, College junior, College senior
That might have gone over well 50 years back, but if there had been any union veterans still around they might well have felt that somebody was trying to stick it to them.

The attacks on Washington and Jefferson are already going on, just not in a big way. Like you say it will only become prominent once the ethnic cleansing of the South is complete.
It’s easy for me to believe that this will happen, because here in SoCal Americans of any sort are becoming a true minority. Imports with no connection to America’s past have no more veneration for Washington than they do for Obama. Less, usually. So calling for his removal will work for them as just another chapter in America’s war on its evil slaveowner past. America will start with Lincoln.

Indeed East Tennessee was a back and forth between Unionists and Confederate loyalties, over property, trade and whiskey and the “powers” that contained them. A whole lot of fighting over these loyalties on the Cumberland Plateau.
Indeed it is easy for knee-jerk liberals who have “de-educated” the youth about all history inclusive of the creation of our country and its principles, who worship at the altar of central all controlling govt without regard to Rights, Constitution or the States,— easy for them to bash the South, and do it with idiotic fascination and mono-focus on race. And of course, this would devolve to destruction of the Europeans who created this country.
The Left is in alignment with the islamofascists and their goals, much as Lenin aligned his apparatchiks in the Ukraine and elsewhere to “incorporate” the organizational structure and discipline of the islamics- later to be slaughtered and removed. The “Black Lives Matter” group is well oiled racism, who are empowered by the marxist in chief and liberation theology and violently supported by black islamofascists like Farrakhan. It is clear that they are targeting the South, but more generally all white America (including white hispanics). This has to be stopped, and lawlessness not tolerated, by force of arms if needed.
