Freedom Caucus coalesces behind Paul Ryan for Speaker.
You’d never guess this outcome by reading the comments on this site.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Then I guess the Freedom Caucus isn’t all that conservative.
next under the FR bus; the freedom caucus.
I think Ryan is a good man and will be fair as Speaker. What really amazes me is all this bashing and hating going on against Ryan, as if those FReepers have been living on some other planet for the past few years. It seems to come as a shock to them that the House is not dominated by conservatives. What part of the single-digit congressional approval rating do they not understand?
Want more conservative congressmen? That’s what elections are for!
You’re either on the bus or you’re under it.
In a statement, the Freedom Caucus said its members had disagreed with one another about other conditions Mr. Ryan had set for serving as speaker. While no consensus exists among members of the House Freedom Caucus regarding Chairman Ryans preconditions for serving, the group said in its statement, we believe that these issues can be resolved within our conference in due time. The group added, We all know that Washington needs to change the way it does business, and we look forward to working with Paul and all our colleagues to enact process reforms that empower individual representatives and restore respect to our institution.
Well, you have the Trump cultists, the leftist fifth column, the old isolationist cranks and various Wallace, Anderson, Buchanan and Perot supporters. None of them are really Conservatives.
My understanding is that Ryan won't bring a bill to the floor without majority support.
All he has to do is break his word-- with a majority of Dems and Republican Chamber of Commerce sock-puppets, he could easily pass amnesty and send the bill to the amnesty-loving RINOs in the Senate.
Damn right he’s no conservative. He gets a lame 55% conservative rating from Heritage Action Network.
They put themselves under the bus.
Very interesting yes?
Or too concerned with freedom, for that matter. Perhaps their own freedom matters to them and that’s it.
No kidding.
Frankly, you need to point your accusatory finger in a different direction. Ryan has been a huge disappointment in the past 2-3 years. After many here were champions of his, he took a decided turn for the worse since 2012. He became a Chamber whore and Boehner tool. He deserves the criticism. I hope he’ll perform admirably in this position. The potential is there, but if he drives the same agenda as the past 3 years this is going to be just as bad as before. In practical terms I don’t know what other option there was. None of the heavy weight options among conservatives would run. We just have to hope this is a fresh start and a new team offers some competent leadership.
Whoops, their go Freepers being tossed under the bus, tossed there by Ryan, the so-called Freedom Caucus and John Browdie.
The problems with Paul Ryan have been well documented here.
My guess is they’re conservative, but stupid. Ryan gave them some private promise he has no intentions of keeping. They have nothing to lose personally from going along. When he breaks his promise, they can say he lied to them: scoring points with their base.
