Marijuana Use Doubles in U.S., But So Do Problems
NBC News ^ | 10/21/2015 | Maggie Fox

Marijuana use has more than doubled in the U.S. since the beginning of the century — but so have problems for users, including addiction, researchers reported Wednesday.

~snip~

"The prevalence of marijuana use more than doubled between 2001-2002 and 2012-2013, and there was a large increase in marijuana use disorders during that time," they wrote in the Journal of the American Medical Association's JAMA Psychiatry.

"Young adults were at highest risk for marijuana use disorder."

"While not all marijuana users experience problems, nearly three of 10 marijuana users manifested a marijuana use disorder in 2012-2013." That adds up to 6.8 million Americans, they said.

~snip~

One recent study showed that the brains of people who tend to use marijuana may be smaller to start with, while another found that marijuana appears to change the brain structure of young men with a high genetic risk of schizophrenia.

Studies also have shown that teenagers who use marijuana heavily grow up to have poor memories and also have brain abnormalities.

~snip~

Marijuana is associated with increased risk for many outcomes, including cognitive decline, psychosocial impairments, vehicle crashes, emergency department visits, psychiatric symptoms, poor quality of life, use of other drugs, a cannabis-withdrawal syndrome, and addiction risk.

For you dopers to consider. Unless marijuana has destroyed too many brain cells, you need to stop. Now.

Something to think about. A few states have legalized recreational marijuana. I’ve heard that other states are considering it.

If people are responsible with drugs and alcohol use, then there wouldn’t be issues to discuss with legalizing marijuana or other other drugs. Face it, as marijuana is legalized, the use of it will become more widespread.

Just wondering...can a person in Colorado who smokes marijuana still buy a firearm as there is a question on the 4473 which will deny you a firearm if you check yes to smoking dope.

Booze and the myriad cocktails of Rx drugs are FAR more toxic, damaging, and addictive than pot in any form.

Getting intoxicated is an integral part of nature and will remain with us until the end of time. It’s prevalent in the animal kingdom and has been with us before humans even existed.

Even if you magically eliminate all drugs people will still choke themselves, inhale solvents and ferment feces to get high.

Pot is by far the safest, cheapest and least addictive drug in existence. People will always want an escape nomatter what so leave pot be and crack down on everything else!

Explains a lot.

Not legal in my state yet, but the open usage by dopers is very common now.

Go to the park. Simply stop at a traffic light with your windows down. Even indoors in public buildings, they have their vaps out and they think you don't smell their skunky stench.

Dopes.

“Oh bullshit. I don’t believe NBC and I certainly don’t buy anything obama’s weaponized agencies day.”

This nonsensical statement is especially fragrant: “One recent study showed that the brains of people who tend to use marijuana may be smaller to start with...”

It should be legal. The nanny state has no grounds to stand on allowing alcohol to be so, while a much less harmful substance not to be.

“Just wondering...can a person in Colorado who smokes marijuana still buy a firearm as there is a question on the 4473 which will deny you a firearm if you check yes to smoking dope.”

ATF’s letter to sellers says to deny a gun if you suspect the buyer is a user. Nomatter if it is legal by state law.

Seeing a medical card on a gun buyer is an automatic denial

Good question. Ask dware if he shows up. He’s from Colorado and a toker and maybe even a gun owner.

Given how terrible the Obama years have been, can you blame people for needing something to calm their anxiety?

No, but the psychological damage it’s causing is becoming more and more apparent by the day. This isn’t the harmless crap some supporters claim, this is far more hard-core and potent stuff.
