The Ole Miss student government association voted Tuesday night to ask school leaders to take down the Mississippi state flag that flies over the campus, the school's student newspaper reported.
The Associated Student Body at the University of Mississippi voted 33-15-1 to request removal of the state flag, according to the Daily Mississippian. The Mississippi state flag remains controversial because it incorporates the Confederate battle flag.
ASB President Rod Bridges released a statement Tuesday explaining his decision to support the flag's removal.
"This issue is not simply a university issue. It's not a white issue or a black issue, either. This is a human issue, and we have a symbol that instills fear and insecurity into individuals on this campus and in this community. Our classmates, our professors, our friends and fellow Rebels feel discouraged over a symbol that flies over our courthouses, state buildings, and public institutions," Bridges wrote.

1. No kidding!? The President of the University of Mississippi released a written statement with that wording?! Doesn't he mean to say that they are "discouraged by that symbol?"
2. "Fellow Rebels," really? Isn't that like saying "fellow conspirators seeking to unlawfully overthrow the government?" Or "fellow supporters of the institution of Slavery?" Really, Mr. University President?!

MS voted overwhelmingly in favor of its current state flag not that long ago, and I bet it’d win again if put to another vote by the people.
