The Canadian election Monday ousted a strong supporter of the Keystone XL pipeline. And it brought into office another strong supporter of the Keystone XL pipeline.

The new Canadian premier, Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau, has supported the construction of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline as well as TransCanada’s proposed $12 billion Energy East pipeline, both of which would carry bitumen from Alberta’s vast oil sands to ports and world markets.

No problem — his position will “evolve” into the usual PC green doublespeak and he will have been for it before he was against it. He is the Canadian Obama, not as stupid looking, but just as stupid.

Not only was he elected, he won in a gut-crushing landslide.

The problem is that Canada is not really conducive (on a large scale) to “conservative” ideas.

Stephen Harper pointed out (correctly) that the Maritimes have no real future as long as their “welfare mentality” persists. They screamed in outrage, denounced him and kicked out every Conservative in office.

Stephen Harper pointed out (correctly) that the kooky lesbian Ontario Premier, Kathleen Wynne, was running that province into the ground. Ontario voters didn’t care, they just whined that Harper was heartless cuz he wouldn’t bail them out with more free money. So they voted in mass for Jr.

It goes on, but you get the idea - this country is full of handout-crowd whiners. It’s hard for “conservative” ideas to work here.

When you buy-out the fishing fleet , the only viable employment and talent known in this region for generations, you begin the "welfare mentality".
No salmon / no cod /no roads or else your town becomes 'unincorporated' and 'seasonal' , what else is left for them ?
Industrious folks ,..but no jobs !

Yes, we've had the same problem in the U.S. for decades. [This message was provoked by both S.O.W. and N.O.W.]

How Dramatically Did Women's Suffrage Change the Size and Scope of Government?

JOHN R. LOTT Jr.
American Enterprise Institute (AEI) (download links for whole document at bottom of page)

September 1998

University of Chicago Law School, John M. Olin Law & Economics Working Paper No. 60
Journal of Political Economy, Vol. 107, Number 6, Part 1, pp. 1163-1198, December 1999

Abstract:
This paper examines the growth of government during this century as a result of giving women the right to vote. Using cross-sectional time-series data for 1870 to 1940, we examine state government expenditures and revenue as well as voting by U.S. House and Senate state delegations and the passage of a wide range of different state laws. Suffrage coincided with immediate increases in state government expenditures and revenue and more liberal voting patterns for federal representatives, and these effects continued growing over time as more women took advantage of the franchise. Contrary to many recent suggestions, the gender gap is not something that has arisen since the 1970s, and it helps explain why American government started growing when it did.
