Ted Cruz Says He ‘Cannot Overstate’ the ‘Threats’ to Internet Freedom, Independent News Websites Like Drudge

Ted Cruz said Sunday evening that the “threats to Internet freedom” have “never been greater” and could have the potential of affecting independent online news outlets like the Drudge Report.

Speaking to TheBlaze Sunday evening in Dallas, Texas, the Republican presidential candidate responded to reports that Congressional review of digital copyright law could threaten aggregator news websites.

“I think threats to Internet freedom continue growing,” Cruz said. “This administration views the Internet as a threat.”

The Texas senator cited the Federal Communications Commission’s move to classify broadband Internet service as a public utility as evidence of the threat.

“I’ve been leading the fight against that,” he told TheBlaze.

“You know, the Obama FCC has invoked the Fairness Doctrine a number of times with sort of wistful glances to the past. Nostalgia,” he said. “You know if I had suggested years ago that the Obama administration would send government observers into the newsrooms of major media organizations, that claim would have been ridiculed. And yet that is exactly what the FCC did.”

“I think it is difficult to find an action that is beyond the pale of what this government would do when it comes to stifling free speech,” Cruz added.

...

“I think the threats to free speech, under big government statists, have never been greater,” he said. “You know, in Washington, D.C., when you drive down Pennsylvania Avenue you come to the Newseum. And carved into granite, some forty feet tall, are the words to the First Amendment to the Bill of Rights to the Constitution. If the Democrats had their way, they’ll have to sandblast those words out of there. I think we cannot overstate these threats.”

Oh my... How many bloggers and media people just recognized a potential ally? A very deft move by Cruz.

The Dhimmicraps and the RINOs intend to shut down any opposition to the “progressive” state. In their view, if they don’t control it, it’s illegitimate.

After 20 years, you have either gotten it that the Neo Stalinist Media Megalopoly has brainwashed the American electorate or you haven’t. Go ahead and elect Hillary or even Trump for that matter.

I do not believe this is tactics and strategy, liberty is Cruz's passion. It is nice that at least this one time a media source gave some coverage of what the man has been doing for most of his adult life, fighting tyranny in the cause of liberty.

“This administration views the Internet as a threat.”

Anyone who views free speech as a threat has no business in politics.

Too bad Cruz doesn’t make these comments during a speech on the campaign trail in front of a group of supporters.

Time to get off the front porch Ted.

[“I think threats to Internet freedom continue growing,” Cruz said.]

The Internet has overreached the boundaries of our Constitutional freedoms. We need a President who has an astute understanding of the U.S. Constitution and can apply the original intent of the Founding Fathers to protect American’s sovereignty and citizens in this day of modern technology and globalism.

As POTUS, TED CRUZ would keep the airwaves open.

Even better if it is sincere. The internet is more dangerous to tyranny than the printing press. I am surprised it took them so long to figure out.

Yes, Ted Cruz is dangerous to the "World community."

Remember this case. The president was GWB.

Ted Cruz fought and won a landmark ruling for U.S. sovereignty in Medellin v. Texas at the U.S. Supreme Court against 90 foreign nations and the President to ensure the supremacy of U.S. legal system against encroachment by international treaties and rulings of the “World Court.”

I’m sure Ted is leading the fight but sadly its not much of a fight. From what I hear the Republicans are going to happily apply convoluted copywrite laws to the internet and effectively cut off the free flow of information. They wan to keep us all uninformed as much as the Dems do.

Hilliary quotes:
"We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."-2004

"(We) ... can't just let business as usual go on, and that means something has to be taken away from some people." -2007

The same with energy — you know, we can't keep talking about our dependence on foreign oil, and the need to deal with global warming, and the challenge that it poses to our climate and to God's creation, and just let business as usual go on.

And that means something has to be taken away from some people. -2007

the drudge report...was unreachable for about ten minutes at one point today

I checked the sites of those who ping other URLS and report on their availability and all their reports repeated the results I was getting.

One has to wonder...
